Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

If these are all the same age, then you are slightly mistaken. I will type my thoughts in RED below near each photo. The Standard of Perfection refers to the lavender color officially as Self Blue, though many use the term, officially the correct term is Self Blue. Some of your photos are of Blue and Splash.

You can breed the Splash to either a Blue or Black and get more Blues. Check this link out to learn about breeding Blues.

You can mate the Self Blue to a Black. First generation will be all Black, but Split to the lavender gene.

Did you get all of these from the same breeder? If they were from my farm, I would eb able to identify most of their breedings. The Blacks are more difficult. Blacks will hatch from a Black to Black breeding; a Blue breeding and from a Self Blue to Black breeding. You need to contact your breeder and ask what breeding pens the Blacks came from. They may be pure Black (from either Black or Blue lines) or Split to the lavender gene.

Sorry if this is confusing.

Thanks for your thoughts!
I got them all from the same hatchery (a member here), they were all hatched between June 1st to 3rd.

2 Blue Orpington
2 Buff Orpington
2 Lavender Orpington
2 Split Black Orpington

This is what I ordered, from her list of available types.

So the self blue, woudl the be "lavenders" from the list, correct?

Could the one you called the black pullet, be a split black? I dont believe she had any blacks to pick from at the time.

Okay people I need the truth. You can be straight with me. I'm a big girl and I can take it.

Just well fed, and round, as they should be at this age. Keep on doing whatever it is you are doing.Pretty babies with nice healthy feathering!

were you? Im like 3 hours away from London...
You must border another Country. I was planning on a train ride to an hr outside of London on our return trip home from another Country but due to illness had to return ahead of schedule. I was so dissapointed I didn't get to return as planned. I want to visit other areas of England and see the countryside as our Historic roots for my husband is England and mine are Scottish.

Hi, I'm new to Orps and I need some help to figure out if I should keep this buff cockerel for breeding? He is a hatchery chick that hatched 2/26/12. So far he is calm and good with his 7 hens and I think he is very pretty but, am new to orpingtons and don't know how to grade them. I want to breed good quality chicks and I don't know if he should be kept or cooked? I have another younger buff cockerel ( in bottom picture) that I hatched the beginning of May from a NC breeder with hinkjc lines but, I don't have a great picture

of him right now. I would appreciate your input.

The roo in the first pic looks a bit lanky to be a good breeder but that just may be because he is still feathering out. You want them to look like big round balls of fluff.
