well said mr chandler..the 17 time sydney royal show winner...ray connor, thou an australorp breeder was such a good soul he gave so many birds to people and he is a world renouned breeder helped garner interest for the breed..everyone LOVES him..he is in his 90 s now , no one has a bad word to say about him..he doesnt mess on the internet too much, it would probably break his heart..people out there just mean as snakes.
mr connor is one of the reasons they are so popular today.he didnt chase people out..he flung the door wide open..invited them in..anything they wanted to know , he shared..they say his nephew is a showman but nothing like ray..hes smugg wont help anyone anything..supposes himself above everyone, so it will be interesting to see how it carrys on...

don is too modest..

AND ANOTHER THING...IN ALL MY YEARS OF RAISING AND SHOWING HORSES, DOGS, DAIRY GOATS, SHEEP, CATTLE, AND POULTRY, I THINK I MUST BE SOMEWHERE NEAR $25,000 IN THE HOLE. HOWEVER, I'VE NEVER HAD TO JOIN A HEALTH CLUB, OR "WORK OUT" TO KEEP MY FIGURE. THE FRIENDS I HAVE MADE ARE PRICELESS!
LOL..you are priceless Vickie..and too funny

I recall Ralph Brazelton talking about this in one of our many phone calls. Forrest Beauford also spoke with me about this. Not everyone knows what the term means. Walt, would you explain this in terms some of the novices can understand?

I will put it the way I have seen it work. A prepotent male will give you good birds even if it is put on a mediocre female.....that is my experience. When mated they give a much higher percentage of very good to excellent birds than an ordinary mating. They are very valuable birds, but if you don't know you have one, that is another story. In my experience they don't always look like a super example of the breed either, so I wonder how many are culled early on. I don't breed from young birds unless I have to, so it gives me time to find those nuggets, if they are there..I think good breeders are those few people who can see something in a bird that prompts them to use it for breeding even though it may not be a show bird. I have been accused of not telling the truth when I have shown some "breeders" the birds I use for breeding.
It is remarkable when birds 'click".

Another good story

Doug and his son Pete are both good chicken men. Not only good breeders, but a master fitter, look at Dougs birds when he put one in a show. It will on 12 oclock and lookin good.

The Akers and the Pattersons are a few of the nicest poultry folks to know here in Indiana. not only they sell their birds to the public for a fair price, they run the Boone County 4-H Club and help out the little folks in the hobby. True gentlemen, and should be given credit for their accomplishments.
