APA most likely will not get enough folks raising any of these varieties long enough (5 years) to have a qualifying meet. Even then there will have to be improvements on those birds to be considered to qualify as an APA orp. And lets not forget the money needed to have a qualifying meet.

Well not in this economy at least. I am still planing on selling my cuckoo chicks to pay for feed, they seem to be a hard to find color so they go for a heftier price. I paid well enough for them. Chicks are around $16 a piece. Plus they are stunning to look at

You are correct. Whatever the color, the bird has to be an Orp...if that is the breed being presented for acceptance. It is not easy to get a new color recognized and it is difficult for many reasons.

Well, I'll keep mine going as long as possbile. Maybe one say it will happen. I missed you at the Heirloom Expo Walt. You were out to lunch when I got there I did get the info I needed though. Go to see that nice buff hen that was there vs the ... not so nice one next to it. Most of my hens are inbetween to close to the better example. The color is a little more dull on mine though. Maybe its the lighting, not sure.

I love seeing all your lovely orpingtons. We just have a small flock of 4 and our buff, while not show quality, is by far the friendliest of our chicks. They're 4 weeks old today, so we have a ways to go before our first eggs.

They are 4 or 5 days old now - I'm looking for signs of early feathering for pullets, but they are all equal right now. I'm going to compare at a week and see who is pushing little tail feathers through first!

I was told you have to do it the very first day they hatched or you can't tell. The differences are very slight too. I figgured 2 hens 1 roo for mine. We will see.

I took a late lunch. Last year a buff Orp was Best of Show at the Heritage Expo.
