So, I'm a little irritated, and beyond insulted.

I went to the feed store this morning to pick up some more start and grow for the babies, and I thought it might be worthwhile to ask the lady if there's anything else I should be giving my hens to help them lay [since they're almost 8 months and haven't dropped a single egg yet]

I told her that they were on layer crumble, oyster shell, grit and cracked corn as well as being free range all day...

She told me that they needed food even if they free ranged.
[Ok, maybe she didn't hear me when I explained all of the things they have available to them]

then,

She tells me that they need clean water.
[Um....does she think I make my hens drink dirty puddle water or something?]

Geez, sorry I asked.

Then, the piece de la resistance,

I ask if the start and grow is medicated, since I won't feed my babies anything else.

She tells me that she doesn't remember, hands me my receipt and tells me to drive around to the barn to pick it up.

.........

Sure enough, when I get back there, it's unmedicated feed.

I was so mad for this woman wasting my time. Hello! You work in a feed store...shouldn't you know these things about the product you're selling?

Sorry for the rant, I was just so mad, like she felt that she needed to point out the very bare obvious parts of chicken care to me because I asked a question, and I was so insulted, my ears must have been blowing steam when I finally left [after, she huffed about having to refund my card for the purchase]

Is this normal? Are there really no nice feed people out there???

Ok, following up my feed store complaint with an Orp Pic

This black cockerel is on his way to freezer camp. He is HUGE, but I'm not liking his comb. I was trying to find someone close by to trade me eggs for him, but could not. I've already got a huge black cockerel with a better comb, this boys eye color is nicer than the cockerel I'm keeping, but I have a thing about combs... His blue buddy may dodge the Freezer Camp bus this time around, as I want some splash babies. Can anyone see a problem with my blue boy that I should be culling for? I want some splashes, but not enough to pass on DQs.

Hee hee, just realized you can hardly see blue in this pic.

Ok, I'm going to try this again... Any obvious problems with this boy? And, I don't know what the story is with the tails on these two, seems to be missing a big chunk right in the middle. I have not had them running with my Alpha for about 6 weeks, my thought was that Alpha pulled the tail feathers out, should they have grown back in by now?

The Buffs all came from the same pair. Whites from a trio.

Some of the White and Buff youtes .

I am focused on the Buff boys cause I only need a couple and unfortunately will have to whack at least 6 of these cockerels

Blarneyeggs- I don't know enough about the breed yet to give you any help on the cockerels but like you I have issues with combs. I think I was told a comb does not count very high in judging points so I guess if other than the comb he was what you wanted I would give him a try and see if he throws bad combs

And as for feed store employees I think its a crap shoot. Our local feed store told my in-laws they HAD to feed pellets to their chickens because pellets were better for them????

lildinkem- I have even less experience with buff or white but they look nice to me.
