I think they are sold out until next year, I bought them in October but I think they said they usually have them for sale in spring.

They're under the "tinted egg layers". Out of the hatchery chickens they are the nicest.

hdowden could you repost pictures of the Malays. I can't find them on the thread. I would like to see what they look like. I am thinking about ordering some from Ideal this upcoming spring. I know they are not great quality from there but I am going to use them in a project and they don't have to be perfect.

I ordered a Cubalaya male and got something that has yet to be decided (altho he was as mean as the devil and he didn't make it to his first birthday)- some people here and others who live near me say he's a cross between all the above (aseel, malay, cubalaya) which could be quite possible since breeders will sometimes mix certain attributes of birds to make a better line - or so I've been told - either way, be prepared that if you order a malay or aseel, you might get something like this (8 month old at the time of photo):




otherwise, I've had Wyandottes, Buff orps, green egg layers (all different colors with tufted ears), Barred Rocks, Sussex, Calif whites (altho mine didn't have speckles) and black with white crest polish. The average birds were all great, decent weight and excellent layers/dual birds. My polish weren't of outstanding quality, but they were intended to be pets and nothing more - however the hen lays me an egg almost every day even in the dead of winter:









In my experience, the dual purpose/average breeds are perfect for eggs/meat, hobby farming, etc - from Ideal. I agree with others when they say that the specialty breeds are best if they come from a breeder - but I still have fun with them regardless. In the end, they all still taste like chicken! LOL!

That cockerel is a BBR Kraienkoppe. They sent me some instead of some of the silver ones I ordered this spring. I got ordered 8 pullets and 5 cockerels all silver. They sent me 3 silver and 2 BBR Kraienkoppe cockerels. All the pullets were silver.

Are they good layers? i wanted to order some with my 1st order but didnt want to have hens that dont lay....

Mine are just young pullets. I was getting eggs from them at least every other day before it turned cold. They are supposed to lay over 200 eggs a year.
They lay a medium size tinted egg.

Sweet! now to see how many DW will let me order! you have lines from both ideal and sand hill correct? if so which do you believe is the better of the 2?

Since the Dorkings are listed under tinted egg layers, does this mean that Ideal's Dorkings will lay some type of tinted/colored egg? Does anyone here have any laying Ideal Dorkings?

my sumatra lays tinted eggs.... they are just an off white color.... not chalk white. i was expecting a cream colored egg or maybe even like a blueish tinted egg.... nope just off white....lol
