Ah, that looks more right. As young birds the lacing isn't always there, but develops as they mature. Barnevelder are one of my favorite breeds. They are nice birds.

When do they start laying?

Mine have always been a bit slower to start. Generally 6-7 months of age. They don't lay a lot but they a nice dark brown eggs that are worth the wait.
