I have eggs for sale but I don't think it is warm enough yet for shipping and of course can't guarentee the type or size of the chicks hatched. I have worked with the seramas for 3 years now and have only hatched out the one micro so far. Remember the smaller the bird the less likely they are to be fertile, that little micro of mine doesn't even lay eggs.
Okay, I just started reading up on Serama. From what I have read so far (most post a year old or more) they
1. do not breed true for just about anything including size
2. are not true to color
3. are most desired for their size but the closer you get to that the less likely they will be to produce.
4. are more delicate to hatch even if you do manage to get small fertile bird. (oh yeah it takes two of those)
5. they do not ship well as either eggs or as chicks.
Do I have that just about right? If so I think I have found a bird that was custom made just for me.
Actually I realize that lots has changed in regard to these in just a couple of years. two more classes have been added, D and Micro. I know class B and C can produce Class A chicks. Do class A chicks breed true for size?
Any improvement in breeding true for color. I really like the Black Silkies.
Speaking of Silkies, Does feather type breed true?
Does anything stay put concerning these birds. If not what are my odds of hatching a turtle from one of their eggs, lol
Sorry for the bombardment of questions but I am working hard to catch up. I am getting Jungle Fowl in two or three months and wanted to get some chickens to give my pen a test run against predators. But I wanted something that I like and Serama look like they would fit the bill and if they grow on us I could build them a run right next to the Jungle Fowl also I have an idea or three that would allow them to hide in the event something is able to get through my runs defenses (not likely) My test is not because I think my run will fail, it is to prove it will not.
So any leads on some quality Black Silkie Preferably Class A but may consider class B if price is right chicks, I have an incubator but have not hatched eggs so I am very wishy washy on weather I would get eggs or not, again for the right price. That one is a real balance of issue for me. I want to get hatching experience before my jungle fowl lay a year from now. but could do that if I have Serama that lay fertile eggs. I need living birds to get there and need an edge that they will be fertile. Maybe I need to rethink the size issue also.
Okay anyway, Black Silkies with an edge that they will be fertile and survive long enough to produce fertile eggs. any help on finding those?
This is Fred my 9 week old Serama roo. I have never owned any seramas and was wondering his type and if he is sq or pq. It might be to early to tell but any ideas on how he looks would be appreciated.
