I just noticed one of my chickens molting for the first time. Weird thing is that he was born this year and all my other chickens are a year old now but never molted last year, that means he molted before his dad

Oh, wow. Sure he's not getting plucked? I think cockerels molt earlier than pullets, but that might be an earlier molt. Handsome boy there! :love

He’s the head honcho of my three little free range cockerels, I have him, a leghorn, and a maran mix that run around my yard and they all get along but he’s at least 9lbs as big as his dad and the leghorn is like 6lbs while the marans like 7. He is pure Orpington his mom is a buff and his dad is a lavender, so he’s big and has attitude but I’m sure he’s not getting picked on.

That's quite the combination that he is! No wonder why he's so pretty! I haven't heard of Orpingtons ever molting early, but maybe he's just that way.
