Poor thing! I don't know why they do this. I have a little half bantam girl this year that took one look at the world after a winter storm and thought to herself, "You know what would be a great idea? If I took off all my feathers right now."

I have this sizzle and she’s gone broody twice. Every time before she goes broody she loses most of her feathers! It doesn’t matter if it’s January I felt bad for her and the baby!

First Place - @fowltemptress

Okay! This weird, scraggly thing used to be an Easter Egger hen named Cinder. I'm not sure when the metamorphosis happened - it's like a couple days ago I had a hen, but yesterday I looked out and it's like Cronenberg had visited the coop. Unlike my other bad molter this year, though, Cinder gets sweeter instead of crankier, and she seeks out other chickens to snuggle against.

On a real note, poor French Fry, she’s dropping more every day and I swear I saw her shivering today

Entry # 2: French Fry again, looking a little worse for the wear. I tried to get her out for about 10 mins of sunshine yesterday and she just stood in the shade

My worst molter this year is Ellie she’s a pin ball right now. She’s an Easter egger

Fourth Place - @CHlCKEN

Indigo (Lav Orpington) needed this molt real bad lol, her feathers were badly stained! Unfortunately she was just a walking rotisserie for a few days

Poor Cinder! I'm not sure how I'd feel winning a contest like this. Thankfully she's back to being her old, fluffy self.
Thank you! And thanks to everyone for their pictures of their poor, suffering birds. This contest always reminds me of one of my favorite stories growing up, and one of the few children's books I kept from my childhood: It's Absolutely True! by Hans Christian Anderson.
