day old emu chick.

Holy WOW!!!! Looks like a zebra hatching..lol.. As soon as I saw the pic of its head I was all "I want one!!" Until I saw what it was..lol..I couldnt imagine the feed bill for a few of those, and I thought mine was bad..S/he is GORGEOUS!!!

Just got these chicks a few days ago. Every Saturday they sell them at our village market.... finally I could resist no longer.

They are sex linked variety of some kind.... any ideas what breed I have? The seller had several varieties.. she said these were for both eggs and meat.

The coloured ones are boys.. and they will be white.
The yellowish ones are girls..
The little black one is one of my own Japanese Bantams hatched out by a broody pair of king pigeons... (I gave them an egg and forgot to replace it with a fake one).


Nap time... you can just see little black chick in the middle.

Mr Flamingo is already showing rooster qualities... he is sure the boss.. and he protects the little black chick very well.

Now we have outside temps of nearly 40 degrees these guys spend a good part of the day in my yard with my bantams. Surprisingly the other chickens accepted them at once and have no aggression to them. My top rooster is very nice to them and they follow him around like he is their mother.
