This type stapler is completely insufficient! I mean if it's all you've got, you have to do what you have to do. It's adequate for holding the wire in place till you can go back and use poultry staples to hold the hardware cloth in place from predators.

These are poultry staples and you hammer them in. Once in they are NOT going to get pulled out by a stray dog or large coon like the staples from a normal staple gun you showed above.

Alright, I'm pretty good with a hammer! If that'll work better I won't bother with the stapler at all and save myself some time and money. Thanks for the info! I've never even heard of poultry staples before.

Very true. Wonder if it would work for a chicken or cat though given how light they are? But surely it would be a couple pound difference at least

It depends on how accurate your scales are. The ones we have measure in divisions of 0.1lb, which is about 45 grams. That's fine for the chickens we have because each division is about 2% of their weight, but I'd want something more precise for a chick or a bantam.

A scale with an electronic readout would be best. The number given might not be too precise, but it is a fixed number and not a quivering needle.

That makes a lot of sense! Will hsve to get a good scale

We some of these when I made the baby bird pen in the old coop. It was strong enough to hold against the fire. The hardware cloth was still attacked when the fire was put out and we were looking at the damage.

i bought a bostich kit that included a staple gun. You can get just about any kind of staple you want for it but they are narrow so you have to have good aim. Nothing pulls them out.
