post your chicken coop pictures here!

I couldn't find Sylvester's post so I'm just going to start by saying I trained the chicks to come and go through the tunnels (they actually figured it out by themselves) and they are running all over the run back and forth from one pen to the other to visit and cause trouble. Here are some pics of them in the run and the tunnels in the pens are visible as well. I also shot a pic of one of our most feared predators but it didn't come out very well: He is right next to the pool between the garage and pool. BTW, the garage collapsed and is waiting for some cash for a new roof and the pool needs some work and is waiting for some ambition on my part. I think you can just see the end of my wife's grape trellis at the end of the garden in this pic.

Dang! I put my bifocals on and still couldn't see your most feared predator! Give me a clue

as to what it is!

Aren't chickens the cleverest ever! They learn really fast and are smarter than we give them credit! I love the chickie chirps they make when they're running around checking things out.

You're right about the water getting knocked around. We got tired of the mason jar type of waterers or plastic bottle waterers because the chickens got them dirty really fast. We started using big bowls but some of the girls liked to stand in the water and the wild birds pooped in them. We finally got nipple valve waterers and the water stays so clean for days without replacing and the chickens can't knock over a full 2-gallon Brite Tap Rubbermaid jug! We use brick steps for the different size chickens to reach. Just a few pics of the red Brite Tap Rubbermaid jug. We use 2 in the backyard and keep one on hand in the quarantine pen indoors:

I know, i shot it through the kitchen window screen. It was supposed to be a joke. It's just a bunny that used to eat all my bean sprouts and lettuce. Finally fenced the garden but i take it down each season to prep the ground. No garden this year, too much work to do on the house.

my first coop 3 years ago was "ready" a week AFTER my new birds started laying

It was crazy. An entire ROOM was full of birds. I'm thankful that it's only at the 4 week mark and the coop is coming along. Unless you count the rain that has fallen for days now.

It's going to be in the 70s here this weekend

We're gearing up for a major weather event here in CO. Nobody knows if it will be all rain, part rain/snow, or mostly snow, but should be quite a lot of moisture regardless. Could be up to 3 feet or more up in the mountains/foothills. Supposed to start later this afternoon and it's ~50 degrees right now (25 lower than yesterday), so pretty sure it will start as rain here, but supposed to swap over to heavy wet snow late tonight.

Half a day at work today, got home tended the birds and then headed out on the bikes. VROOOOOM! Have to go collect eggs and double check feed and water.Hope you all are well and safe. @Latestarter I hope you keep safe and the weather man is wrong!

Thanks for clarifying the "predator" -- I thought it was a squirrel

. No joke though -- those rabbits can do major damage in a garden and so can full grown rats!!! Actually, thinking about it, just about any wild critter can be annoying on our property.

Got a late start in the garden because of the unpredictable rain bursts -- doing half the gardening I did last year because of all the backyard construction going on but did manage to lay down some paver stones to line up container pots for some veggies and got at least one raised bed planted and covered. Slowing down in retirement, dang it! The contractor broke his wrist on another job so waiting on him to put up a roof over the slab where the Barn Coop will finally be relocated.

This is the slab next to the garage ready for the patio roof to be added. Coop will be relocated to this slab but the chickens have already taken over the area!

Ours is so close to being done. For anyone who thinks "We've got a few weeks to get the chicken coop built whilst they grow in the brooder. Let's go buy chickens now!" Just don't. Haha. Unless you are an experienced diy'er/builder or have a solid week off of work with no little children to wrangle, just don't. We said that nearly five weeks ago. The chickens will be five weeks old Saturday and we might get them in there Saturday. But their run won't be done for likely another week!

That is so cute - and green is my favorite color since I was a kid! Suggest a paver stone walkway to the hen house for those muddy days you need to check the collection box. At least the rain will run downhill away from the coop but looks like it will run right through the center of the run. No matter how we plan there's always something overlooked - sigh!
