Look a roof frame is done!!!

Most of top is up and all that's left is walls and cutting a door.

Anyone have an A Frame coop? I'm going to try and tackle making my own coop myself and an Aframe seems reasonable to tackle on my own, but I'm having a hard time envisioning the dimensions of actual usable space on the inside (and where to put the roosts).

*this will be for a small flock

Google A-frame chicken coops or search thru the photos on this "post your chicken coop..." thread to see the many ways companies or private owners have designed the top floor or back-end of A-frames with nestboxes and perches.  I saw one owner that built one that was tall enough to be a walk-in!!!!  I went nuts one time just searching all the coop websites to peruse the many styles and functions of coops just for fun!

You can drastically increase the usable space in an 'A' frame design by not coming to a tight point at the top, aka make the base wide vs going tall...

Another good idea is to put a vertical knee wall on one side this gives you a location to more easily mount externally accessible nesting boxes, without really complicating the build all that much....

Just a dumb question: has anyone seen a legitimate dimension for the treads on a chicken ramp? I made mine 6 1/2" because it worked out to miss some structure and it looked about right. Just curious if there is a recommended distance :)

Im going to drop the ramp tomorrow after my Wife's doctor appointment, about noon. If you hear any commotion its probably my chickens fighting.....or me clapping because they didnt :)

No question is ever dumb concerning our precious chickens

I had a chicken ramp that had ladder cleats about 3-in apart but it looked too close so when we made a replacement ramp we used 4-in apart cleats. I should've stayed with the 3-in cleats for the Silkies. I mean, 4-in is ok because of the LFs but the Silkies were hesitant to try the ladder with wider spacing. I guess it depends on the breeds in your flock - watch how comfortable they look when they use the ramp and adjust accordingly. We found our ramp was too steep for the Silkies so we used paver stones to lift the incline of the ramp.

Talk about buffs roosting, i watched one fall off the bottom rung and catch herself by the toes, hanging upside down. Then she flapped and wiggled until she got back upright and went about her business. I was surprised she could hang on to a flat 2x4 that way. So much for chickens not having a grip :)

My ramp is about 3' long and not too steep. Its about 9" wide. In its last location it was somewhat steeper and no cleats and they managed but did slide a bit. I suppose i could add another cleat between each set if i see them struggling. Its only 6" off the ground at he coop.

I'm confused. How high is the coop off the ground? Surely not 6".

My coop is a pole construction with a concrete slab poured inside (4"). The grade comes part way up the 2x8 bottom nailer so the ramp is hinged to the top of the nailer and thus only a few inches off the ground. Grade in the run is a little higher than it was in front so ramp is flatter.

Im integrating them today so ill get some new pictures. My end sheet metal is here so ill also put that up today and my project is almost done :) All i need yet is a sliding barn door for the run for maintenence chores. I might pick up the track for that today too.

I thought mine were just lazy for laying in the afternoon lol

And 2 have been laying every day since the Sunday before Easter. Then others have started and stopped here and there wnd for a little while now we've been getting between 5 and 7 a day. Lately it's been 7 but the past 2 days only 6. Can't wait to,collect today and see. Twice we have gotten 8 now, just last week, so I know they are now all laying. My one EE lays HUGE off the scale often double yolker gorgeous blue eggs. She laid normal size but still big eggs for a few days but now is back to huge eggs. But anyway, she likes to lay for a few days or sometimes a bit longer then stop suddenly. My dad figures those huge eggs are like 2 eggs and she needs to rest. Could be
