post your chicken coop pictures here!

That's a good idea. The whole thing is mostly blocked from the wind by our garage so we'd probably only have to do that to one side. Easy enough. Thanks for the tip!

What we did to cover the floor ramp opening was put a piece of plywood at night across the opening on very windy or stormy evenings. Of course, now that we've permanently closed the opening from the Silkies, the plywood stays over the hole all the time so their only access is through the outside wall pop-door.

Our ramp is on hinges and raises up and doubles as a door. We keep it open for ventilation but we did it that way so that we'd have the option to close it in extreme weather. This Sunday we're forecast to have a high of -8 so we'll probably close it then. I just bought a wireless thermometer for the coop that tracks humidity too. I'll have to keep an eye on the humidity in there when the door is closed.

Can't imagine freezing temps! We don't get below freezing here and our pop-door stays open all the time. The coop has an enclosed run so we have the option of keeping the pop-door open and that way the hens can come out into the run in the morning any time they want until we let them out to forage for the day. Having the humidity thermometer is a good idea for your enclosed coop.

These below 0 tempuratures are no fun, for us or the chickens!

Has anyone else noticed the old chicken coops on some old farms...around here the buildings were around 15 by 30 ft...more or less...but one thing that they all have or had...is windows in the south facing wall...lots of windows! And sometimes shutters and removable window awnings, for in the summer...I will see if the one that I am thinking of is still there...I think they turned it into a work shop and storage building. I've collected a few old books on chicken keeping, and they have pictures of these buildings...let me know if you have seen them in your area.

The last place I lived had a coop like that...one whole wall was windows. I went it one better and cut out a large space in the opposite wall as well as opening up a foot square space under the roosts.

So you were the one that posted a while back about the neighbor taking a couple chickens at a time from you?  GL with your new flock - it'll be a bit tricky safely free-ranging the Polish since they are skittery and don't see well through their crest fluff to evade hawks.  Your Lab is good with the birds?

Yea I got 3 lab's they are awesome, they really watch out for them. And I will only free range in the day time when I call them tee, tee, tee they come running it's funny. But I've only let them out a few time's, in the spring I'll let them out every day. I want them to lay in the nesting boxes before I let them out.
