post your chicken coop pictures here!

WOW_Beautiful!!! Did you follow plans? Care to share them?? You have some lucky girls.

Thanks! No exact plans. Researched by looking at Amish made coops, books and the web. My uncle is helping me and we are "winging" it

. It's mostly a shed on wheels with a chicken box bump out.

:welcome   Welcome to the thread as well.  That's a great looking chicken mobile home (or is it a "manufactured" home)! :clap   Looks like it might just be a tad top heavy though, want to be a little slow cornering

Haha yeah only made to be moved around the farm from time to time to give them some fresh grass.

I have painted the hen house since this picture was taken. We used almost all reclaimed materials except for the hen house part.

Here is a nice little coop my dad put together for his new flock of 7 bantams. Free range in the yard during daytime hours and cooped at night. He painted it blue & red so I'll post some updated pics once I take them. On the far right you'll notice the outer edge of his pigeon coop that houses about 80 birds. Great source of fertilizer for our gardens!

Love how the ramp flips up into the door. Clever!

I've started construction on my coop. Lots of work has gone into the foundation. Sloping the ground to drain the heavy downpours of rain we get here in Florida. I created a 2' skirt of chicken wire that is partially submerged and covered with rock to keep the digging predators out. I'm painting all the wood after it's been cut with 3 layers of outdoor latex paint prior to building it up to help keep it protected for longer. About 50 sq ft of coop & run once everything is finished. 3 nesting boxes for my 5 birds. The window will allow me to see into the coop from my detached garage which ought to be fun. :D

Not much to look at yet, but a lot of work has gone into having a strong proper foundation. The rest should go fairly smooth once I start on the coop and run. More pics as I progress

12x6
. 12x6 with 2 foot boxes so basically on a 12x8 platform. We're thinking 18-20 max. Potentially 9 boxes but not sure yet how we are dividing that up yet. Maybe less boxes and making them bigger.

Our nestboxes are 16"x16" x 2.5 feet tall. Sometimes we'll find all 4 of our chickens in one box when the nights get really cold. We like the tallness of the boxes because we have one statuesque APA Ameraucana that stands very tall in the nestbox and one-foot tall doesn't cut it with her. Chickens stand to lay their eggs for some reason and one-foot tall is cramped for the average LF.

As for 18-20 chickens max - cut down about 1/3 or 1/2 that if they don't free-range. Whatever is recommended for max chickens you'll always be safer estimating that in half - easier at cleanup time for you and healthier for your chickens.

Very nice build!

Hey that's nice! Love the logs.

Don't be surprised if there are comments by all us chickeneers to finish up the wiring up to the top to keep out critters. Even in our city neighborhood we have goat-sized Raccoons!

We stood outside our collection box on a rainy day and quickly realized we needed shelter over our egg collection boxes LOL.
