I put some small wedges in the bottoms of the walls to hold siding. Now cleaning the coop is way easy, nothing gets caught up in all the corners of the studs.

Well, I'd set my sites on doing a good cleaning of the coop.....in fact, its been on my "to do" list for at least a month.(probably since it turned cold) ! I kept waiting for a "warm" day which is ironic right here at the beginning of winter.. You see, I do not do cold very well! Today was the magic day. I have about 3 inches of sand in my coop...to shovel and put in the little wheelbarrel,,,,take it out and down the treeline to the compost area.. In fact it was 4 loads of sand taken out of there.. Swept, refiled water and feed while I was getting it all done. My ladies were so confused.. most were scared to come in there and if they did....it was a real run.;coming in the pop door and out of the people door! LOLOL Only did my EE lazily walk in and stand there...right beside me and watch as each shovel full went in the bucket! If she couldn't see enough, she would get up on the roost where she could look down on evertyhing. It was hard work but at least I had company.. I think if I had done it wrong.........she would probably find a way to let me know. LOL When I got finished taking the sand out, I began moving my new bags of sand in. Now they got rea curious! LOL and yes, my EE was of course, going step for step with me. The others were resting outside..... I got all the sand in and the bags outside and the rest of the flock began coming in with all the curiosity they could muster, They all got about 4 steps inside and realized,,,,it was new sand! 4 of them (38SL and 1 RSL), immediately few up to the roost and one was over at the egg boxes. It was very obvious they did not expect new sand! I thought I was going lay down right there and roll in that new sand.. I laughed until I was coughing.. I talked to them but they ignored me! But in the morning, all that sand will be completely leveled...! I threw a few BOSS around so they will be doing the scratching around. In this pict, these 3 ladies kept looking but would not partake in the new sand between their toes!

Looks like your Easter Egger wasn't afraid of being adventurous. I just love EEs and Ameraucanas for so-o-o-o many reasons! The Ameraucana (my avatar) is the best breed I've ever had - so wonderful that I special ordered a Blue Ameraucana (along with a Blue Breda juvie) for next Spring 2015. My current Ameraucana is so great that I use her as my barometer to compare with other breeds. She wins hands-down every time. I had a little Dominique once that was a great outgoing friendly industrious unafraid little girl that our Ameraucana befriended but we lost the Dom before she got to POL

On the topic of self-assembly coops has anyone ever researched the www.chickencondos.com chicken barn coops? The slide out cleaning tray was a plus with other options like extra windows, more pen space attachments, etc. We thought about putting the whole thing under a pergola canopy (we currently have our little wood coop/pen under a canopy) which makes it cooler in summer and keeps out rain in winter.

I like the Amish fiberglass coop models on www.eggstremecoops.com but our hot SoCalif weather is too stifling for the shut-in walls and as a senior it isn't handicap friendly. I like open bottom dirt floors for our hens as it makes it easier to rake then climbing partially into any Amish model (whether fiberglass or board-n-batton) to sweep or sift for cleaning.

I looked at the Tuff Shed chicken coop (they only have one model) and looked at the EZClean Coops website but both seem to be expensive for part-OSB or all OSB-type construction and there isn't open dirt floor or much pen space in them.

I was so busy discussing a new block wall with our contractor who remodeled our house that I totally forgot to ask him about a custom quote. Will have to ask him next week.

Offer suggestions/opinions if you like.

Wow, beautiful birds. What's the story behind them?

Way to honor your grandfather. Good luck, and just keep building till they're done. Those birds really are striking. What are the real colorful ones?
