Popped out a 6x12 ventilation hole door at roof line of coop today. Hardware cloth with cold air return register over that (dh's idea and since he stood out in the cold, I went with it). It is hinged from inside if needed to close back up.

Jeeeeze... wish I had a wife that would buy me power (or pneumatic) tools!

My last wife thought my tools were primarily for yard sale bait.

For what its worth I use rice hulls for bedding.... but the drought in California has dried up my sources.

I'm thinking about buying this because the price is amazing. Planning on enclosing more of it, because I already have a great area for a run underneath my second story deck. Does anyone have this coop or have one from the same manufacturer? Do you think starting with this and then customizing it a bit would work with this kind of coop? I really like this, but I'm nervous buying something off eBay. Experiences? Thank you!!

Don't do it!!!!! Those are coming out of China and the wood used on them is so dry and brittle....not to mention thin. Money wasted in my opinion. When I first got started with chickens I bought the "cutest" chicken coop and run setup. Oh, the pictures were great, price was, too. When my neighbor friend and I got through putting it together we both looked at each other at the same time and, at the same time, said "you've GOT to be kidding!"

It was in reality so small!!! Wouldn't house more than 2-3 small bantam breed birds. I also want to mention that the wood coming out of China has this God-awful smell...almost smells like gasoline...weird.
