post your chicken coop pictures here!

I'm going to have him cut it shorter when we start on the new run. I've been doing test runs on my VSB auto chicken door. I bought it over 10 years ago, but haven't used it in a few years. I'm just now getting back into chickens I missed them when I didn't have any. I also have some Georgia Giant Quail in the incubator hopefully hatching in a week. I love cold weather but -14 is a little to chilly for this old Florida woman. I can't wait until the new area is done and the birds can move into their new coop. Do your birds go outside in that cold of temp or do they hang out inside the coop?

Perhaps a nice paver stone in front of a cinder block porch right in front of the chicken door. No cutting necessary

My girls stay in when it is cold or raining hard. The ~30' x 70' post and beam barn is ~160 years old. A lower 20x70 shed was added probably in the earlier parts of the last century since it is made of REAL 2x lumber, not the 1 1/2" x xx 1/2 inch stuff we have now. There are three 12x12 stalls and 3 storage areas in the shed part. It isn't in great shape, the interior walls that make the storage areas look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I converted one of the stalls into a chicken coop and there are no other domestic animals in there so the alley and 2 other stalls are their indoor run.

I leave the left barn door on the south end open all day every day of the year so they can come and go as they please. All the way open if it isn't windy and "chicken wide" if it is. There is also a chicken size door in the right side door that I can open if I want even less air or the wind is coming from the east and blows in through the partially open door. I leave both doors open in warmer weather as well as the double doors on the other end of the alley. I rarely see chicken prints in the small amount of snow we have now when it is cold or when there is a lot of snow on the ground even when warmer. I guess since there isn't anything to forage they would rather hang in the barn and dust bath in the shavings in the alley. ~540 sq ft of "hang out" space for 10 chickens. It isn't pretty but they don't care and don't know how good they have it!
