post your chicken coop pictures here!

My happy chicken in their pen :)

and here they are having a little play time!

This is one of the better built DIY pre-fab chicken coops we looked at before finding a different custom assembled one at our feed store. I love the way you have raised it on a platform for safety from ground floods and for ease of reach during cleanouts.

In open exposed free-range areas put some low-ground lean-to's for the chickens to dive under from aerial predators. It's amazing how savvy hens are when there's no roo but having hiding places is crucial to their savvy survival - especially if you can't watch them the whole time they're free-ranging. We even recycled an old dog house for them to use and have seen them all dive into it from a Cooper's Hawk. Chickens are way smarter than people give them credit - but it's up to us to add the safety precautions too.

Beautiful photography!

Since I'm building this on my own I went with a shed from Home Depot.

The "vent hole" that came with the shed on the left, my cut out on the right.

Once the weather improves I'll start working on all the extras. Windows, roost, automatic door.

Someone on this thread bought a TUFF SHED through Home Depot that was an ACTUAL chicken coop TUFF SHED design for about $1200 with standard nestboxes, egg collection doors, perches, cleanout door, air vents, chicken pop door, with optional legs, skids, wheels, etc. It is TUFF SHED's one and only chicken coop design. We're thinking about getting one on wheels as they will come onto your property and assemble it for you.

We kept looking at Home Depot and Lowe's sheds but we're too old to assemble one ourselves. So when we saw an actual coop at TUFF SHED we're considering getting it customized and painted and assembled by them right on our property with all the options. We'll want a window in ours and maybe a screen door too.

Your shed is nice and roomy. Glad you plan to add the extras. What a great feeling of satisfaction to make it to your own specifications! Chickens are smelly if confined so the more ventilation access the better and looks like you planned for that!

My shed included delivery and assembly. That was the selling point. I couldn't build it myself. I did the painting myself, and fixed the vent! I have 2 shed windows that open I'm going to install. I bought the Ador Automatic coop door. I bought an interior panel door 24 inches wide 84 inches long that I am going to make the poop board out of. I have a 2x4 for the roost and I already built the nesting boxes. I also bought a 36 inch wide screen door I'm going to install. So I have lots that I need to do. The weather has not been cooperating. But in the end it will be a VERY custom coop.
It wasn't until after I bought the shed someone at HD mentioned they carried coops. Buts that's ok. open. Every time I get something else done pretty proud of myself.

Your coop is way bigger than the TUFF SHED coop although their standard coop is fairly roomy too - already has all the standard coop accessories with it. Your shed is a walk in shed whereas the chicken design is not walk-in so you absolutely will love yours! And don't think you 'll be done once the shed is completed. We've had backyard chickens for 3 years and we're constantly modifying/adding/learning as we go!

Sorry about your uncooperative weather. We're sitting in 100 degrees with a fire going a few miles away with raging 100 mph Santa Ana wind gusts fueling it - typical for our Southern Calif area!

This is my new coop. The rains have kept me from dressing it up, but my chickies are not quite old enough yet, just 4 weeks and still in the garage in my 'daycare' pen
Here's our daycare pen

this is similar to the coop I just got finished building. I built mine 8 x 8 . what size did you build?

I tried to fit mine in between two pine trees, I ended up with 4x10, 4x4 coop and 6x4 outdoor run. If my yard wasn't sloped, I would've loved to come out another couple feet.

Chances are the 'coop' is too small for the money....the shed probably more bang for your buck.

You are probably right. I know I was looking at different coops before I went with the shed and the prices were shocking. I definitely wanted a coop I could walk into. I wanted room to keep supplies like food and shavings. I think the shed will work out great. I'll probably end up spending as much as those pricey coops but it will be much bigger with everything customized.

I had to post here because nobody under stand why I'm So super excited!!! My husband is going to go to an auction tomorrow and hopefully get me a 17' semi trailer we are going to turn into our "barn"!!! Right now I have 3 coops that I run between doing chores. I have 9 rabbits, 8 chicken (9 eggs under a broody) and one 3 day old cow I bottle feed because poor mama didn't make it: ( so hopefully we get it!!!
