chickenlover237........go to the "coop" button on the menu at the top of the page and it will take you to a LOT of coops. Below the several rows of ready to order coops you will fins as many stories/and pictures of coops that have been constructed by those members here on BYC.....The great, the good,,,,,the beautiful, then those of us who used recycled materials. They are the neatest ones to me because they stayed with a very small budget and the out come will surprise you... Mine is from recycled materials and its around page 5-7. The Chickadee Club.... Anybody on here will gladly answer you questions.. 2 basic ones I can think of right away are: 1. DON'T use chicken/poultry wire. Spend the extra $ and use at least 1/2" to 1/4" hardware cloth wiring...more expensive but well worth it! 2. use a 2x4's with the flat side up instead of the "round dowel stick" for their roosts.. Because the chicken does not sleep with a continual "grasp" like many birds...the use their bodies lay on their feet to keep them warm and prevent frost bite. It also protects them from rats, etc nibbling on their feet as they sleep.. and yes that happens.. Build it so the chickens, etc can be locked away and safe from any predators...from snakes that love the eggs and small new chicks, to any other animal that might carry a chicken away completely to those who love certain portions of the bird and will leave the rest laying there for you or your children to find the next day! Have fun.....ask people here on BYC anything.....sometimes we are a little too blunt but for the most part.....you will find us very helpful.

Cute chicken coop. Wish it came 2x bigger to hold more than just a couple birds or it could've been ours 3 years ago. I believe this model is an easy-to-disassemble coop for cleaning. Looks like you plan to free-range the hens in your yard. Give your girls a bench or a shelter from the mid-day sun to snooze under. Having chickens is so much fun and so much to learn about!

We can add to the coop easily - that's why we picked this one. Right now the brooder part has three sections but I can add another brooder on the side close to the house so it's easy to add room for more chickens. I'm also going to landscape around the coop. As you can also see I've got a tented area too for shade. I'm thinking of things to do now so everything is ready in April when the three Australorp chicks to arrive. They will be free to roam around.

Our yard is just eclectic
