post your chicken coop pictures here!

I finally decided to finish the roof on my run. I had it half done in 2x4 welded wire but didn't like the look at all, and couldn't motivate myself to finish something I didn't like. The Easter Egger girls could launch straight up and out now, so yesterday I talked to my wife about corrugated steel vs lattice, and we (she) decided on lattice. Off to Lowe's yesterday afternoon, and I redid the whole thing in about 2 hours. I LOVE it, and my wife is happy, so that's great. I think it turned out way better than corrugated steel would have, and it won't hold snow as bad.

We may plant some grape vines around the outside to help offer some additional shade (and perhaps drop some tasty morsels to the girls) in the summer.

I added a lean-to

. I added a lean-to on the back of my barn, 9x16 which is a vast improvement over my original hacked together mess in my garage. I will install a chicken door eventually, right now I open the door on the right so they can range but the wind is brutal on it. Also a pic of my nest boxes, perches and hanging feeders. In see many of you put your feeders on the ground. Call me lazy but chickens have no respect for good food or water and will poop all over it if you don't hang them. I'll post more pics soon.

I'm no expert but I've noticed my birds always go back to the nest boxes to lay even if I leave them outside all day. I think it's what they are used to so they seek it out when they feel the urge. I left them locked up for a few weeks to make sure they knew where home was before I let them range. My grandpa had chickens and I don't recall ever having to hunt for eggs, they always went back and nested to lay. His stayed out all day and had a two way doggie door to go in and out. He never lost any to animals that I recall but today I would never leave a path for predators to get to them at night. We are over run with cayotes. If they aren't in by dark I take a little corn and coax them back in by sprinkling it on the coop floor after getting their attention.

Coop kit arrived today.

Started to put together, but the battery died on the cordless dill.

Roost area waiting for roof and egg nest box

The run. The roost and egg nest box will sit on top of this. I have a dog kennel I'm no longer using for the dogs now that we live in a place with a fenced in yard that I will be adding on to give the hens more room to roam.

Should have this done tomorrow, weather permitting , with the additional run added by Wednesday.
