The rock wall in the back was already there. Its a part of our car port. After we dug out the coop, we had to add more rock to retains the dirt under the car port. The clean rock on lower half is the new stuff we did. Here are some pictures from the car port from above.



What kind of wire it that up top? Because of where you are (and anywhere really) be careful about using "chicken wire" anywhere in your coop. Its only meant to keep chickens in,,,not predators out! I will attach a pict of what a predator did (dog or racoon,,,anythng can get in)....think about reinforcing it with something suitable for your area's predators. Good luck! We are building what amounts to a small BARN! 6.5' tall 8'x8' squared with a walk in door, slanted roof for rain run off and either a 10'x20' pin butted up next to the coop or same with a wire hardware cloth (hate chicken mesh) used to create a walkway. The pin will be covered with hardware cloth to keep critters out and we will have it sunk 6" into the ground and skirted 1' out and up all sides. A privacy fence will be added and our dog who thinks she's a hen (let chicks climb all over her) will be allowed to patrol the grounds. This will house our current 18 hens and a smaller coop and pin will house our hatchlings however many that shall be. I will be culling out the adult roosters and my two young ones will travel to a new home this coming weekend. Hope to end up with about 30-35 hens and +-10 roosters (2 for keeping 8 for food) when alls said and done.

Blizzard of 2016. This is a coop that I re-purposed from a playhouse that I bought on ebay a few years ago. The original builder built it all in panels that bolted together. I added an automatic door made from a car window motor on the other side, but I have deactivated it during the blizzard. The window that had been on the left side of the coop, was made into an access door to the nesting boxes.

Wow, that picture is awesome. Look at all that snow. I live in south Florida and it just hit 50 degrees last night. I freaked out and was about to hang a heater for my birds lol Looking at this pic I think mine are just fine.

This is the nest box. We goofed on the roof and didn't have enough of an overhang. We ended up having to add another piece to fix that.


My daughter decided that since we couldn't have roosters that the girls should have a rooster painting.


This spring we are going to change the roosts by moving the lower one up and then put a tray under them for easier cleaning.

LOL! My flock was panting in 50* sunshine today. They prefer overcast and rainy 40* days.

Lol to cool. The snow looks awesome. I live in buras Louisiana. I freaked out the first winter to lol but its pretty much 50s and a few day's at 40 here to. They love the cold.

And all your coops are so cool. Mine is plain and open. I have more concern about the heat in the summer. They free range all day. Just ordered new bird's had a coon take out my flock last spring and only have 2 of them left.

I've got 4-5 birds that perch outside the coop on a cross brace in the run...I've gone out in the dark and put them in the coop...but they return to the outside perch every time...it's a covered run with tightly stretched tarps on the roof, north and east walls. It's been below zero here over night. They just hunker down and fluff up....no frost bite! They go in and out of the coop during the day.

Lots of them, but I kind of need to narrow it down a bit..... how many chickens?
