I find meal worms are the food from the gods for my girls,just shaking the bag will have them come running to me from where ever there hiding.

Gardening - when I'm turning over the soil - they'll come running to find the fresh worms and grubs in the holes I dig. I have one Silkie that sits on my shovel when I'm digging, she's so trusting. I have to fence the girls off from my garden or I'll never get any work done! They want to help me dig as if I can't do it right by myself

. The bag of mealworms worked great to sprinkle on the new coop ladder to show the girls the way up to their new house.

Getting everyone settled in to their new home. We have a detachable run as well. They will primarily free range in our backyard unless we are gone for long periods at a time.

My birds love free-ranging so much that when we have to herd them into the coop even for a few minutes they squawk bloody murder! They eventually settle down but if they see us they'll complain, and loudly, the whole time. Embarrassing when you have close neighbors

Mine love corn so when they didnt come in when i wanted i just took a scoop of corn out where they could see me and waited till they came running, then i just gave them a little at a time in a trail to the door. Took a little patience but it always worked. I loved it when they ranged but it's too dangerous now so i built the large run. Thought about fencing to discourage land animals and keep them in a restricted area but the areas i want them in are too complicated to fence.

Here's a pic of our portable coop. Has a hitch and everything. And that's my niece, she calls herself "the chicken guard."

I normally can do some work but the chicks are getting very crowded and need to have more room so i'm marathoning the run. Just not used to working so hard lately. I think we spoke once about your living in Clinton, i graduated highschool there in 64. My Dad lived on Matthews Hwy for 57 years and is now in a home in Tecumseh. I'm taking my wife to see Dr Levitsky in the am. She used to get massages in Tecumseh but hasnt lately. I've never had a complete massage, only when having therapy after a surgery. I should come out and see your layout sometime.

What i have left is 2 rows of wire on the front and side as soon as the rain stops, then the deer wire and the chicks are going to their new home Piece a cake

Yeah, I just let my big girls out of their coop today. Doubt they'll spend much time outside today, but it lets em get out a little. Really hoping it warms up soon so that I can clean my coop out and get it back to being a tractor again. That and I wanna move my buffs outside into a mini coop so that I can go get my meat birds.

My little 4 week old buffs have all figured out what that sound of the mealworm bag is all about. Just see em all perk up when you rattle that bag.

Heck I cleaned my coop in 2 feet of snow about a month ago it's been so windy here these past couple weeks it is crash it was getting into the 70s there a bit but then the wind started to pick up then here these past weeks

Our first home for our chicks.

A friend of mine gave it to us. It had plexi glass in both spots on the front and was divided into two sides. We took the divider out, put a board in one side and the wire in the other. We kept them under the car port until they were bigger.


Second home.

We built this little coop and put the orange box in it. The coop could be moved around, but it was heavy.


Third home made for the winter.

We kept the coop from the second picture but moved it next to our shop in a lean to area.. The plan was to enclose an area (adding tin roofing back to the shop that had blown off) so they could have a bigger, safe area to roam during the day. Well with oil prices falling so did our income and that didn't work out. We enclosed the front and end with tin that was the lean to roof at one time. We also added more tin on top of the coop to weatherize it better. We didn't put any on the back of the coop since it as close to the building and wanted some air flow. This was taken after I found out there needed to be a place for them to roost and nest. My oldest son made a swing for them from the handle of an old mop. I'm standing in the gate and next to that board in the bottom left corner of the picture is where I put a big flower pot with straw for them to lay. Their food and water is against the side behind me you can't see.

Nothing fancy, but the girls seem happy. We go down and let them roam around for awhile in the afternoon/evenings.

thanks the girls seem to enjoy it. The bottoms filled with soil so they can scratch about when I'm at work and there locked in and even has a working clock.
