Typically my white eggs average 2.5oz...

This big un weighs in at 3.5oz.. either laid by one of my leghorns or by my leghorn/jersey giant cross.. (but I'd expect it to be brown if the LH/JG laid it)

Might have been a double yoker. We wanted to save the shell so we blew out the egg. Looked like a lot of yoke. She has not laid one today yet, we will se what comes next!

I just purchased 3 easter eagers from a friend on BYC yesterday morning. I had lost most of my almost mature RIRs a couple weeks ago, and I was trying to improve my boy to girl ratio as it is WAAAAY off since the masacre.

They are molting, and also with being moved I was not expecting to see an egg in the coop!

I know it's not technically our first egg from our birds that we raised from babies, but I was excited anyway.

editted:
just went out to the coop and got these!! the smaller one is soft, leathery shell. we were in the coop when she layed it, and seemed she had a little bit of a tough time, but it stayed intact so that was a relief for both of us I am sure. the larger egg was found outside in the run, guess someone couldn't hold it in long enough to get to the nest boxes lol

editted to say:
we opened the small egg thinking it wasn't going to have a yolk, when in fact that was all that was in it...filling it up. one big yolk and hardly any white at all. weird huh?

Not too much smaller than store bought large egg.

We think this is the proud mama. Heather, one of our Welsummers, and her onlookers.

I looked at different eggs online and am now thinking this came from one of my Silver Laced Wyandottes Festus (husband named her) ! opinions anyone?

YAY...I got my first egg!! Finally! 20 weeks on the dot for one of the girls. The shell was really soft, so i changed their food and put some crushed up egg shell our for them that I had been collecting. I need some oyster shell or something...but...YAY!!!!
