3 RIRs and 3 SLW.
My wife and I went to Europe when the girls were about 22 weeks old and we had yet to see an egg so we were sure they would start in when we were gone as we were gone for a bit over 2 weeks.
Sure enough, about a week into our trip my son sent us a PIC of the first egg (all that waiting and they just HAD to start when we were gone). A little tiny thing. We plan on pokeing a hole in it and removing the egg to save it as a XMas ornament.
Then a few days later the second one. Shown here with the first. Obviously a bit bigger.
We're back now and most of them are laying. All the RIRs are regular but the SLWs aren't quite all kicked into gear yet. I think one started yesterday as we had another tiny egg that was quite light in color. I think all the SLW eggs are a bit lighter then the RIR eggs.
We're SOOOO egg-cited. It's so cool to go out in the morning for out little treasures!
The golf ball trick seemed to work quite well. They showed absolutely NO interest in the nesting boxes I built into their coop so I was worried they wouldn't EVER go in them, but low and behold, that's the ONLY place they lay any eggs. Good chickens!
We just got home late last night so this morning was our first egg-sperience with collecting and cooking them. One was a double yolker and they were all FANTASTIC!!
We have a total of about 25 or 30 laid so far within a slightly less then 2 week period so the 'free' eggs at this point are about $40 bucks a piece (after the cost of.....coop, run, supplies, food, treats etc...).
