This morning I found our first brown egg on the ground in the coop. Yesterday Daisy was in the nest box trying to dig a hole to China, so I'm sure it's her. For comparison 2 sage green EE eggs (we have 3 hens now laying about every second day) and a white store-bought large. (Maybe I will no longer need to buy store eggs. Yeah!!

I think my 19 week old Red Star laid them. But I'm not 100% sure.

3 RIRs and 3 SLW.

My wife and I went to Europe when the girls were about 22 weeks old and we had yet to see an egg so we were sure they would start in when we were gone as we were gone for a bit over 2 weeks.

Sure enough, about a week into our trip my son sent us a PIC of the first egg (all that waiting and they just HAD to start when we were gone). A little tiny thing. We plan on pokeing a hole in it and removing the egg to save it as a XMas ornament.

Then a few days later the second one. Shown here with the first. Obviously a bit bigger.

We're back now and most of them are laying. All the RIRs are regular but the SLWs aren't quite all kicked into gear yet. I think one started yesterday as we had another tiny egg that was quite light in color. I think all the SLW eggs are a bit lighter then the RIR eggs.

We're SOOOO egg-cited. It's so cool to go out in the morning for out little treasures!

The golf ball trick seemed to work quite well. They showed absolutely NO interest in the nesting boxes I built into their coop so I was worried they wouldn't EVER go in them, but low and behold, that's the ONLY place they lay any eggs. Good chickens!

We just got home late last night so this morning was our first egg-sperience with collecting and cooking them. One was a double yolker and they were all FANTASTIC!!

We have a total of about 25 or 30 laid so far within a slightly less then 2 week period so the 'free' eggs at this point are about $40 bucks a piece (after the cost of.....coop, run, supplies, food, treats etc...).

Shirley laid this two hours ago...

im bot quite sure those are laid by your red star........ is it me or are those olive colored?!

I got my first egg from my Black Australorp pullet this weekend and she's been laying an egg every day since!

Here are her first 4 eggs from left to right. Is it normal for the shell to darken in color as they start laying?

This is a photo of our first egg, laid by our Easter Egger, Ethel, on what was the coldest day of the year yet! I'm SOOO excited. 10 minutes after I collected that one, I found another one (under the roost, on the dropppings pit, ick)!

Thank you Terrie for the technical support!!!
