Those are gorgeous! So, they lay speckled ones and solid ones? I want BCM's, too.

Yes. I like them all, but the smooth brown is my favorite! It really has a chocolate colored look to it.

How old is the Red Star? They start young...like 18 weeks or so, and the color is about right.

Oh my goodness, I'm so excited...this morning we got our first egg, and this afternoon our second egg! The second egg is for sure from Raven, our barred rock...not sure if the first was from yesterday after I had checked the nest boxes or if one of our other hens is laying, too. Both eggs were found in the same nest box (we have three) but I'm so impressed that Raven knew where to go to lay her egg...I hadn't put golf balls in the nests or anything so how did she know? I'm so thrilled I just had to share! Here is a picture of our TWO first eggs!

Yes, you can expect that kind of consistency! My RSL has not skipped a day in nearly four months!

My very first egg!!! I am so excited!! The golf balls did the trick, first egg right in the nest box. A barred rock layed this egg, I got her May 14th and they said she was a week or two old so somewhere between 16-18 wks! I was even there when she layed it!! One of my trips out to the coop she was in the nest box so I grabbed the camera and waited a few minutes and low and behold there was an egg. She sang her song but not for a few minutes after she laid, I was wondering if she was going to be the silent type.

Congrats! Ain't it wonderful?? A miracle of nature.

Mine started laying almost a month ago and I'm just as excited now as I was then. It doesn't seem to get old. I still have a couple who haven't laid yet, so I'm anxiously waiting to see when they start, too.

Congratualtions on your first eggs! Our barred rock just laid our first egg today, I was thrilled!! Your eggs do not look too small are they small? Ourse was pretty small.
