First Egg!! Came home from work this afternoon to find this in the nest box! Not sure which girl it's from, as she was already back in the run with her buddies by then. It's a beauty! I've got 4 Red Stars and 4 Australorps, and I'm sure this is from one of the Reds, as the Lorps are not quite mature yet. All of them are 17 1/2 weeks old, and the Reds have been getting their red combs and wattles, and have been squatting for days, whereas the Lorps still look and act like babies.
I'm a proud, happy chicken mama!

The two blue eggs are from our Bantam lavender Americuana and the two tanish brown are from our buff orpington hen and the one in the front is a first ever from our Speckled Sussex pullet, 17 weeks and 6 days old! really early! It is soft-shelled and was hard for her to pass... she was in the middle of a poultry clinic for 4-H! It was so funny and scary at the same time! We are switching to Layer feed for the pullets today!!! It was so very unexpected this early. We have a Red Star and a Buff orpington the same age and really expected the red star to lay first.

Our first eggs....in 24 hours I got 4 eggs from 3 chickens

I was like a kid at Christmas when the 2 first eggs came from our 2 chickens...we also have 1 Bantam rooster named Clyde..hens names are Thelma and Louise...I just wanted someone to tell me what is wrong with this egg I just got the other day...looks like a dinosaur egg...it's 3 inches long and 2 wide and is thick with lines on it!!???? Thanks!
Do you have dinosaurs that frequent your coop? :) I think that look is normal for a new egg layer.

15 weeks???!!! Is that really possible? Mine are 13 weeks and I've been thinking another 5 weeks at the very earliest but trying not to get my hopes up.
