good job!Hey everyone! WE GOT OUR FIRST EGG TODAY!!! Woo Hoo.
We work during the day, so I have no idea when it was laid. We let them out to graze around 6 PM or so every evening and since today they turned 20 weeks, I've been looking each evening for the past week or so for eggs. I could see where one of them had been in the two end nest boxes, but no eggs. Since I knew from this site that they will lay anywhere, after checking the boxes, I go around back to the clean-out door and open that just to look inside and tonight, there it was. In a corner right underneath the nest boxes. One of my Barred Rocks, Ginger, was standing over it kind of pecking at it a little bit, so I got in there and got it immediately. She hadn't hurt it, thankfully. I'm crediting her with being the one who laid it since I really have no idea...she was the only one there and I don't know when she did it. So, without further ado, here are the photos!
It looks white in this pic, but it was a light cream color.
I placed it next to a grocery store bought egg and it's clearly a brown egg. AND...a bit smaller.
But who cares? It's my FIRST EGG!!!!! Woo Hoo!!
I have 3 red sex links and 3 amber links, so there from one of those guys!! First egg was a double yolk!!!!
