awww I had a hen named Apricot. She was a Red Star.
But we lost her when a weasel attacked her and her sister, Peach.
and Seth the rooster.
Congrats on the eggs, though! They look great! We also have some buff girls, and they are about 5 months. HOw many months were yours? Hopefully they will start soon!!!!!!!!
We got our 1st egg today! We've been waiting for a long time. We have 2 LB and 1 RR that are 6mo old.We didn't think they would lay until spring but yesterday 1 LB was screaming like she was being attacked. I went to work and when my husband came home about 3pm there was her egg. We are just waiting until the other 2 lay now. It is so cold here in CO that even with the heat lamp there might not be anymore until spring. I hope that is not the case. The brown egg is Peppers and the white is store.
My Black Star finally started laying at 5 1/2 months! Sorry for the blurry pic, I am not that handy with a camera. I was shocked that the first egg (right) was such a good size - comparable to the Large eggs from the grocery store. A few days later, she laid the whopper double-yolker (left).
We got our first egg the other day... 11/10! Woooohooo the lucky lady just turned 21 weeks.
So there's a little story as to why we didn't get it until yesterday. It would seem that my baby decided to sent me to the hospital with early labor. But the day before I was telling DH that one of the ladies were cackling... you know Bawk bawk bakawk repeatetively. But I've been saying they were acting funny for a week now and nothing so I didn't think anything of it. DH closed them in for the night and that was it after my prenatal appointment.
So come home from the hospital yesterday and DH took the time to check the nests and low and behold an EGG!
So I guess my chickens popped before I did!
Here are the ladies that one of them laid the egg...
