what breed of chickens lay your brown eggs?
those are some good sized eggs!

I have a variety of shades of brown from warrens, black rock and bluebell hens. I also have white from leghorns, green from a columbine and now blue. I am just waiting for the really dark browns now, I have some young welsummers and barnevelders for that, and may look for some marans later in the year. I love having all the different colours :)

What are warrens and bluebells? Do you have pics of them? Would love to see them if you do!

Sorry, I forget that there are so many differences between USA & uk chickens!
Warrens are a type of standard commercial laying hybrid, they are a gingery brown and I believe are a sex-linked cross originating from rhode island red & rhode island white.
Bluebells are a very pretty hybrid, with blue colouring, created from a rhode island red cockerel over cuckoo marans hen.

Nuttinfancy, you can do a Google Image search for photos of them. The bluebells are really pretty.

Thanks elliechooks. I enjoy learning about the different breeds.

We got our first egg on 2-17-14 from one of our light Brahmas, then we got another egg on the 18th and today we got 2. This is our first egg, a medium sized tan egg. The girls are 20 weeks old. I'm waiting on the golden laced wyandottes to start since they are the oldest at 22 weeks and then the EE who is 18 weeks old. It will be easy to know when the EE lays!

The brown eggs are from my hens and the white ones are the last of our store bought ones. I think the darker egg with spots (not poo) on it is from the barred rock. We never see them in the nest so we don't know who laid what! Waiting on my wildlife cam so I can see what's going on while I'm at work and to also monitor for predators.

Had to post a picture of my eggs. My girls are finally laying! We have 3 RIR and 6 EE hens. Hoping to get some blue ones soon. My EE's were right around 10 1/2 months old before they started laying. So there is hope for the late bloomers. These were from 2 days.
