Yesterday's light brown with dark speckles egg and today's larger all over dark brown egg. Same chicken or two different ones? We have 3 Red Stars and one Orpington that are all squatting and have bright red combs and wattles. None of the others appear to be close to ready.
Crooked house I'm new to chickens but I'd say different chicken. I only have 1 layer right now and she's laid 7 eggs that all look very much the same, pretty much same size and maybe just a tad bit lighter or darker coloring on the eggs but generally the same egg.
That's kind of what we were thinking but both eggs were in the same nesting box (not unusual for them to share, I know) and we didn't get a second egg from the Red Star if it's two different layers. I know it's also not unusual for them to skip a day when they start. I guess we see what tomorrow brings - I'd like to have two of them laying now. Maybe the others will catch on soon, lol.
Yay for 2 layers crooked house. I am just waiting for our 2 egg days also. Finding 1 egg pretty much every day is kinda just normal now after a week and a half. Finding 2 in the same day will be super exciting. And I definitely can't wait for all 5 to be laying.
At least yours are using 1 nest box. My 1 layer refuses so far. Trying everything I can think of to convince her they are good to use so the other 4 don't follow her lead and refuse them too! :/
I just did some research here in the forums and it looks like the dark egg could have been from the BO and the smaller one from one of the Red Stars. The girls are all 18 weeks old. The tiniest of the Orpingtons is the one with the large red comb and wattles. Three of our four Red Stars are showing signs. I think I know which one laid yesterday's egg but without seeing it happen there really isn't any way to know. It is really cool to check the boxes and actually see eggs after all these weeks!

Thanks for your response topdog24. They are all 18 weeks old. We have three Red Stars and one Buff Orpington that are potential layers. None of the others are even really close except maybe one or two of our EEs.
