I have 5, 5 different types of chicks in a coop right now (Welsummer, Australorp, White Leghorn, Speckled Sussex and an Easter Egger). They're all 6-7 months old now, and my White Leghorn, Nyra, laid her first egg on October 24th! (She seemed pretty proud of herself).

Beautiful girl! Mine proclaims proudly every time she lays an egg too lol. My leghorn started laying REALLY early compared to my others! She was only 17wks old! I'm sure of it too because I bought them as day olds!

Thank you! And yeah compared to my other's its really early so I know what you mean! No one else has started laying but that could also be because there isn't enough daylight anymore, it gets light here around 6, and almost black at 5 in the afternoon.

yeah, I had to supplement my chickens with a light source. I have it set to where they'll have 13 hours of daylight total. It must be enough, as I got a first egg yesterday.

Speaking of lighting, when do I need to start supplementing with a light? My hens have only been laying for about 6 weeks and have recently dropped to an egg every couple of days. It has been rainy here for over a week and with the time change, there hasn't been a lot of sun. Is it time to put in a light with a timer?
