My $1000 egg because that's how much my chicken coop cost! It has been years since I've had chickens and how sweet it is.

Here is my first egg. It was laid in October. Better late than never for posting it on the boards I guess. It is still dirty in the pic, I found it on the coop floor.

Now, they are laying in the nests like they are supposed to do.

Don't know which of the ladies laid these. They were on the floor of the coop this evening -- a New Year's gift as we welcome back the light:

My freeloading little EE's are finally going to start laying eggs!

The Cuckoo Marans started laying just a couple of weeks ago! I even had wall paint made to match the color in it's honor! DH is soooo tolerant! The little one in the middle is our first EE egg!! I was so happy when I found it last night, I woke up all my chickens! (I got out to the coop late)
The other egg is a Danish Brown Leghorn...she's very productive...

Finally, I get to join the 1st egg club ! Here's whom we expect as the culprit - one of our two partridge rocks, Claire. She'll be 27 weeks on Christmas Eve, and she laid on Saturday 12/20:

Alas, it's sweet, sweet fate (would you look at that orange yolk!):

I can't wait for the rest of the girls to start paying rent because I was amazed at how much better Claire's egg was compared to store bought. I've pretty much boycotted restaurant tomatoes, now it looks like I'll have to do the same with eggs !

The Ladies of Orpington Manor are all laying now. But, the first egg appeared on the floor of the coop on September 29. Lola was the proud layer. She is on the left front of the group photo. Everyone was all a-twitter with excitement at the small round object on the floor. The others followed shortly. Now we are getting 4 eggs a day from 4 hens, with an occasional vacation day for someone. (Paris?? She is such a little socialite!)

I am really enjoying BYC. Nice to know I can share my chicken-love with other like-minded individuals!

My first eggs laid by my chickens, just in time for Christmas!

Yeah!
That big white one is a store bought jumbo....I have no need for that sucker anymore (well, I won't count my eggs before they are laid just yet.)

Hooray!!!

After waiting since April, I found some eggs in the coop this morning. One was in the nesting box, the other on the coop floor. What a cool Christmas present.

Here's the one in the nest box... You can see here I've been using a plastic egg and a golfball (painted to look like a baseball because I'm willing to try just about anything).

Here's the one that was partially buried on the coop floor.

The eggs were laid by bantams so tiny is expected, but they're not as small as I thought they'd be. Mine on the left compared to a store-bought Large egg on the right.
