It finally happened! Our first egg. It's itty bitty and cute as the dickens :)

I FINALLY got my first egg!  Yippeee!!  It is 51 g, not bad for a first.  I have no idea who layed it.  I have an ISA brown, an amber white, and a NHR who are all red and squatting.  I also have a BR who is red but won't let me get close enough to see if she squats.  She hates me.  I guess it could be her.  Its so hot and buggy that I don't spend a lot of time out there.  I'm not sure how I will ever find out who lays what.
wow that's a great size for a first egg. My BAs first was only 25g and she's been laying 3 1/2 weeks now and it's up to 40g now but 51g is awesome!

We had enough for our first breakfast of freshly laid eggs - just in time for DH's birthday!!

The hen on the left and her "sister" are the ones that laid eggs first (we're not sure of their breed). Our Black Australorp just laid her first egg yesterday!! We have 2 RIR and 1 Light Brahma in addition to those 3, so hopefully they will be laying within the next week or so - all of their combs are pretty red and well-developed.

I wonder how big her eggs will be after a few weeks then!! Actually I don't think it would have mattered to me if it was teeny tiny I would still be so excited!

Ya we were so excited for that first little egg. We found it doing morning chicken chores before the kids went to school and it threw our morning off. We were so excited that the kids were almost late for school, my daughter ate her breakfast in the car and my son went with his hair sticking up all over. But it was an exciting day. Can't believe one little egg can cause so much excitement.

I sit here and watch them in the coop as they lay their eggs via a camera trained on the egg boxes! LOL!!! I email my sister daily and give an "egg report." Maybe after several weeks of all four of our girls laying I'll get used to it.....or not! My sister said she actually enjoys my reports! It makes HER feel like a farmer reading up on the daily report!

Sandywitch- I'm not sure it'll ever get less exciting. I'm still waiting on 4 to start laying and the one layer has been laying for 3 1/2 weeks and I still get a kick out of finding her egg. I have 2 squatters so I am wondering who will be next to lay. I knew my BR was close because her comb and wattles are big and red and then she started squatting a few days ago but then today I realized my RIR (or production red not sure) is squatting. I wasn't even putting her in the running to be next to lay. Her comb and wattles are not very big and they aren't quite red. I assumed my EE was gonna lay before the RIR because at least her comb and face are red but now I'm not so sure. So it's really between my BR, EE and RIR who will be our 2nd layer. Our 2nd BR is behind, her comb and wattles aren't even close and she's not squatting. Wouldn't it be nice if all of a sudden I went from a 1 egg day to a 4 egg day. Haha, probably won't happen but I can dream!
