Gee. if I was a chicken I'd stay in there all day long, even after I laid my eggs there. I see what you mean about no access bar for them so it's a probably a good thing you added the perches. And I wonder if the curtains are a deterrent. Try taking just one down for a few days and see if that interests them. (Sorry, it spoils the symmetry, but it might be worth a try) I know they like privacy but I have a few who lay in a bushel basket laid on it's side and love it, even though it's open. If yours are laying on the floor of the coop, then maybe privacy and darkness isn't that big an issue for them. Maybe they want to able to see a little bit. Shoot, I'm grabbing at straws here....can you tell?

I brought "Liberty" and "Justice" home on Friday afternoon... And they gifted us with these by Saturday at dusk. Sunday's breakfast was extra special! :love
those are beautiful girls! I think I want some of those in my next flock! So awesome they gave you eggs right away. The wait is Sooo hard!

It has happened! Three days ago we got our first egg! And apparently egg laying is catching, because 2 more hens have joined the egg laying game since the first egg. We have 10 pullets, all almost 19 weeks. Our first egg came from an Easter Egger (Blueish? Or is it green? My husband and I don't agree on what color it is). The light brown/pinkish one is from a White Rock. And the dark brown is a mystery. It is either from a Red Sex Link, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, an Australorp, or a Cuckoo Marans. My guess is it is from the Sex Link. Maybe sometime in the next couple days I'll catch the girl in the act and know for sure. The white one at the end is from a Runner duck. 3 down, 7 to go! This is so exciting, I can't wait to see what color eggs the others lay!

congrats! Awesome colors. I think it's greenish but pictures don't ever do egg color justice. I have a BA and her eggs are light brown so I'd venture to say the dark brown egg is not from an Aussie. That's just awesome though to get 3 layers starting so close to each other. Our first layer started aug. 1st and we didn't get our 2nd until yesterday! It's so exciting though.

I couldn't believe my eyes at first but these are the 5 eggs my Cinnamon Queen 'Penny' laid early in the early morning on her first laying day at 20 weeks old

, she laid another one at mid day for a total of six, and has since been laying one egg a day...That's just one egg short of matching the world record for eggs laid by one bird in one day. I don't know why the pic didn't show ..I'll try again
