Yay... at last! Almost 21 weeks:

I knew they were just about to do it, because someone had been checking out the nest boxes and rearranging the furniture:

It's finally happened!! The girls let me know what I first got home. They were squacking at me like crazy so I knew something was up. I had it for lunch and it was delish.

Here is my first egg--was laid in Late September but I just figured out how to use photobucket. As you can see it was about the size of a ping pong ball.

Gertie, my little 6 month old Rhode Island Red mix, just laid her first egg. It's my first too.

You might say that we're very excited.

She is such a good little gal that she laid it in the nesting box. It's brown with little speckles. Very cute.

This was our first just over a week ago. We have now a total of 15 eggs. Each one still so exciting.

First egg!! woo hoo

My 4 are just 20 weeks and this afternoon Stella, one of the black sex links, just popped out a dainty little light brown egg. Guess I have a bit more wait for the buff orps to get going. There's so little daylight-maybe 9 hours- and its very cold here so I didn't expect anything until maybe Spring. How exciting

I've heard that you can leave eggs in a cold place until the center dries out and then you can display it so I'm going to try that.

Here is our first two. They were laid by Ginger, our 24 wk old RIR. They were just a tad smaller than a large egg and the shells were hard as a rock.
