Hey I got my First Egg!!!

On Saturday I got one but she laid another today for me. These eggs are from one of my Favorolle's. My early Christmas pullets from my Parent's. I found them hidden in their barn. So they came to my house before Christmas. Mom and Dad are upset they kept them hidden from me for 4 weeks not one egg from them. They have been here for about two weeks and I start to get eggs

Finally today was THE day!!! How can you possibly explain the excitement, the thrill, the exhileration, the sheer joy of running to check box when you hear all the ruckus, and there actually being something there.

Our sweet Butterscotch was the Queen for the day. Yes, I am double dipping with my bounty today by posting on the Butterscotch thread too. But had to show everyone how well she was doing.

Isn't it grand. It is truly the most beautiful egg I've ever seen. "sniff"

My first Easter Egg egg was on the 4th of July -- a tiny little green egg:

My babies were 21 weeks old.

By the 23rd, we were getting a dozen a day (from our flock of 22 hens), and had gotten some extra-large double yolkers. (Two in this photo) They still are laying at least a dozen a day (we are down to 20 hens), and the most we have gotten in one day was 19. No double-yolkers in quite a while, I think those are anomalies due to hormones not yet being stabilized.

I got my very first egg on Christmas Eve!! Lucy, my speckled sussex, laid me an egg at 18 wks old. She had been born on my birthday, August 22nd, and laid her first egg on Christmas Eve. So far, everything she does seems to be on a significant date. Here are the pics:

I have no pic but Clarisse, my debeaked BO gave me my first egg on Christmas day!!!!!!! A perfect nice size brown egg.
Unfortunately, it had a pip in it, maybe one of the other pullets had to see what it was.

I found my first egg yesterday, second today!!

I took pictures (Of COURSE!), but since I haven't figured out how to load them up to the forum, ya'll just have to take my word for it - and believe me when I say they're beautiful, flawless, and gorgeous light brown. I also think that the Egg Princess is the Light Brahma. At least it was she who I found in the nest box this morning (nothing under her then).

The big question now is how to commemorate? My mother says to hard boil them and enjoy them in their full egginess. My neighbor (who has scads of chickens) says to fry or poach. I'm leaning toward home=made mayonnaise. How do other people celebrate their first egg(s)?

Susan
