So this is my first "real" egg from my chickens I have raised from chicks. I say first "real" egg because one of my EE had an accidental midget marble egg & has since to lay anything else.
This is from my RIR, Big Red. It was such a nice gift to find in the coop after I had to go out into our field to round up the ducks for nighty nights. So that made 6 eggs collected today from the ducks & chickens! Sadly however before I could get upstairs & safely have it in a carton --tragedy-- struck. I guess my pant leg brushed up on some stinging nettles because my pant leg got me just before the stairs causing me to drop the egg (and myself) in the surprising pain it caused! So here it is, battle scars & all! Below is Big Red.

So I've been watching Camilla ever since she hit sixteen weeks. Her comb was huge and red, her wattles were too and she's gotten a bit feisty lately and LOUD.

This afternoon, she was making a racket, so I called her to see where she ran from, and inspected the area a short time later. At 19 weeks, 2 days.......

It's a little oblong, and a smallish one, but it's so perfect! It wasn't in the coop though, so we'll have to try and make that happen for the next one! :D

First Ameraucana egg. Exactly 5 months old - actually earlier than I expected. It was a happy surprise!

The girls like the old brooder waterer which is sitting on the drainage platform under the frost free spigot and they all went straight there when I let them out this morning. The egg must have been laid yesterday because it was cold and I spotted it no more than 5 minutes after I let them out this morning.

I was expecting one of the Anconas to lay the first egg since they have red combs but the egg isn't pure white. Not sure if that is related
to it being out in the cold or a first egg or someone else snuck one in on me. The comb on one of the Cubalayas is pretty red and I guess they might lay a light egg or the Faverolles but their combs aren't red yet. Definately not one of the EEs

and too light (I think) for an Australorp or Partridge Chantecler..

As you can see, it is HUGE (OK, not huge

)

Here it is with the 1 1/2 dozen large eggs from the grocery store.

First egg from the original members of our flock-- we got 7 day old chicks from the feed store in early June and later added 3 older hens. The older hens are all laying, but this egg is super special!

From Princess Leia, my son's 21 1/2 week old barred rock. He's so eggcited!

Our first eggs, found these three last Saturday the 27th of October, when we were prepping the coop and yard for Hurricane Sandy. All three were in the same nesting box. Been trying to figure out who is laying and who is not.
I have RIR hens between 20 and 23 weeks, older three are laying and the other four are slightly younger by 1-3 weeks due to two chicks who didn't thrive from the original six we got. Our feed store gave us a bonus chick just in case and all three survived so we have 7 total.

Inthesticks: Sorry about your mishap. That egg now looks like a Frankenstein egg! But, I am sure it tasted great! Your RIR hen looks beautiful.

Thank you! I know, I was so sad when it happened. It sure was! Yeah Big Red is a special lady.
Has anyone else had a hen that continued to "squat" & seek you out after she has started laying?
She was very stand offish before starting to lay & now she's lovey dovey. I hope it doesn't go away! I love my lap chicken
