I have a couple of questions. I have a one year old cuckoo maran that only lays an egg every month or so, if then, is this normal when they first start laying? She was nearly 8 months old when she laid her first egg so she hasn't laid many. All have been very dark and large so far. Second question. I just got 3 pullets from another breeder. They started laying last week and they are small and very light colored eggs. My RIR eggs are darker! Will they get larger and darker, or do I have dud chicks?

Sadly you probably have duds. There suposed to lay their darkest as pullets! The older they get the lighter the eggs become. As to the pullet that lays once a month that is not normal.
