Posting questions in articles instead of forum

Hi! I'm wondering if there's something that can be done with the many questions being posted as articles. Not only is it counterproductive to the member asking the question, it also clutters the article pages, especially the member pages. And seeing as articles can't be deleted by members, they just hang around there forever. It's sad, 'cause the actual articles get lost in the void.

With so many posting in the wrong part of the site, I'm guessing it's an information-issue. Maybe you can write something like "if you have a question to ask, use the forum (link)" in the pop-up to create new articles?

(I know there's a how-to-ask-questions beginner's guide, but people have a tendency not to read stuff before posting... Just the way we are, I guess. )

Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to convert articles into forum threads. We already display this notice at the top of the articles section for members with less than 25 posts:

Ah, so a warning already exists! That's ... slightly disturbing when it comes to people's willingness to read instructions. You moderators/staff sure don't have an easy job.

It's a rampant issue, not reading instructions. Some call it hastiness. Some call it irresponsible. As an English teacher, I call it my arch nemesis.

Not only do we have that notice in place, but we also have VERY clear instructions in our "Welcome to BYC" private message conversation to each new member with explicit info on how / where to post questions.

While it is a relatively common mistake made by new members, considering we have thousands of new members joining us ever month, it's actually a relatively small % that make that mistake :)
