Pot belly pigs

firechicken~my potbelly pig is about 9years old and the funniest animal!! She isn't too large because of her feed. Don't feed them dog food or they get huge quickly! Ours loves to eat right outta your hand. She won't leave our property even when there are no fences!!

Judymae, That thing is so ugly it is cute. lol
I have decided against a pot bellied as I see no advantage as far as meat goes.
( originally was thinking it would be a little cheaper to feed being smaller) But could definitely see one as being a pet!

Nice pics!

Firechicken~My neighbors actually ate one of my potbellies when it got onto their property. They put him up on a spit and roasted him! My kids cried their eyes out. I wouldn't have minded so much if they hadn't lured him over with food! I just look at it as they needed the meat. They don't work much and have 6 kids to feed.

Those pics are of my beloved Daisy. She is so ugly she is cute. When I'm having a bad day I go out there just to look at her. It always brings a smile to my face!! When you call her name she wags her little tail!!

this is my pot belly,,do u think she is pregnant? i felt the babies and she is and was in with a boar and i seen them mate and this was 3 months ago and she not been in heat since.

OMGosh Yes! I raise them for food. They are easier/smaller to deal with, less dangerous with Grandkids running around, and all around cheaper to feed. They eat scraps galore but mostly I give them tons of garden scraps. I render lard, make head cheese and with the left overs? (fat, and so forth) I put in a five gallon bucket with a lid. I poke holes in the buckets so flies get in but not out. They lay babies/maggots which will crawl out of the holes and my chickens LOVE it. Nothing goes to waste....I won't get any bacon though.
I am amazed at how many people seem unaware you can raise pot bellies for meat.
