Potato Peelings Ok Or Not ?

I'm one of those people who believe chickens won't eat anything that is going to kill them. Come on they eat styrafoam and survive

Some of my chickens have tried to eat poison, so I think they WILL eat things that could kill them. I feed non-green potatoe peelings to my chickens. The amounts are relatively small and it does not seem to harm them.

I have never seen a chicken eat raw potatoes or peelings, I always cook the peelings up and add them to the scrap bucket or throw them in a crock pot with rice and beans and any other foods that we don't want, including chicken bones all crushed and broken up.

Thank all of you for the input. We do not eat a lot of potatoes ourselves due to the fact that they are high in starch and glycemic carbs that cause blood sugar to spike. Plus, they usually go to storage (fat) like corn does. That said, my chooks will get the brown peelings from now on from the few we do eat. May even boil them to tenderize if other scraps to be added at time. I have 23 so oatmeal, rice, etc are a bit expensive to be feeding them. Leftovers are fine tho.

Oh, and chooks will eat harmful things. I know of one that chocked to death on a banana peel. One posts on here said they saw a string hanging out of a chook's mouth and also hanging out of it's butt

because it had not gone all the way thru yet!

My hens must be food snobs. They never eat styrafoam or cardboard. Of course, I do give them the 'good stuff' (dates, berries, cooked rice, spaghetti, yogurt and greens) quite often.

I use to save the potato peelings and boil them in the evening and give them something warm to eat before nightfall, They always seemed to enjoy it!!

No raw potatoe peelings.. Nightshade plant.... It can and will kill them... ask me how I learned???

Chickens do NOT have a discerning pallet and WILL eat things that will kill them... So will dogs and horses. That is why there are postings about poisonous things. Chickens have and will dies from things that you may think are harmeless...like raw potatoe peels and raw green beans...yep... them too.
