potty training a chicken??

I made a chicken diaper, it worked like a champ, but my chickens don't like to be separated. So, in the garbage it went. I need to make an apron for my Cochin. Poor thing is at the bottom of the pecking order and they pecked her back end out. She is currently coated in blu-kote. Great stuff BTW.

I had a sick one who had to be inside. I kept a towel in the same spot and used another one to wipe up any mess. The wipe towel got used for all messes immediately and put back on the other one. She was put on the towel regularly and just eventually started going to the towel on her own. She did about 70% of the time on the towel in about 3 weeks.

I just replied under another heading. I have a hen recovering from a Jubal bone fracture. I slammed the coop door on her beak. I took her to Ok St U vet hosp and they put her in a parial upper beak cast. Anyway she needs to be confined for about 4 weeks. I have her in a dog kennel on the back patio and in the shop building at night. I let her out in the shop on newspaper in the morning and evening. Also I use newspapers in her kennel. After about 3 days, she is now pooping on the papers when I let her out. Basically she poops twice a day. She also tries to go near the edge of the papers so she does step in it. I guess she just wants to keep her home clean. I never thought that a chicken could do this but she does. I didn't even think of trying to train her, she did it herself.
