I have a little poult that after 30+ hours of trying on its own, I decided to help it out. One of its legs is twisted, and so is its foot. I have yet to see it stand, it has been out of the shell for about 4 hours and is completely dry. What is it's chances of surviving, or am I just prolonging the inevitable? I will try to get a pic soon.

Here are some pics and one video of its leg...what do ya'll think?

Right after it hatched...its the leg on the bottom

Now that is is dry...again leg on bottom

So what do you think I should do, just make sure it drinks and give it time?

It's a tough call and depends on a lot of factors.

I have a baby chick that I got from a hatchery two weeks ago that arrived looking just like that. It eats and drinks fine...walks around on one leg and uses the bad leg like a crutch instead of using the foot.

Mine doesn't seem to be getting better walking but I have seen the leg heal and the chicken use it. Usually with a funny walk but some heal completely. Currently mine is just as swollen and looks the same as it arrived.

The problem here is mainly that other birds will pick on the weaker ones...walk over them....mash them...even smother them. So it depends a great deal on how tough the lil guy is on survival.

Mine is such a happy fellow and super sweet that I baby him. Sometimes the disabled ones turn out to be the best pets.

Good luck!
