I'm slowly plugging the article into a translator. I'll report back if they say anything about the leg color. It does talk about the different colored chicks, yellow & white.

I will ask my DW tonight.I thought that too but every one of my original flock has yellow legs and beaks. About 1/6 of the chicks in the last few hatches have kept their pinkish legs and all the rest have developed yellow legs. Out of over 100 chicks, the blue eyed one is the first one that has had that color of eyes. She is over 7 weeks old now so it will be interesting to see if they change to orange or stay off colored. The following link is to an article written in Spanish which I can't read unfortunately. If you look at photo 8, you can see 2 young PPs with different colored legs. That's exactly what my youngsters look like. Most have yellow and a few have legs the color of the bird on the right. You can also see that its beak is not yellow. Does anyone on this thread speak Spanish? I'm curious to know if they talk about leg color in this article.

Thank you! So far, I'm not seeing anything that talks about the different leg colors but some of the photos show it.I will ask my DW tonight.

So is the standard for them yellow legs? When I first got a bantam leghorn to cross with my Andalusians to make bantams, the breeder told me to check the bottoms of the feet for yellow as the female will hide it there. I don't know if you've checked there or not. I wonder if the absence of yellow foot bottoms in a bird that is supposed to have yellow legs is an indicator? While we are on the subject of Pita Pintas, I have hatched over 100 PP chicks this year. I have shared the wealth with 4 other people who plan on breeding them. That makes 7 of us with breeding flocks that I know of.
With so many chicks to observe, I have seen a few things pop up that are not wanted. All of my original flock (Zorro and his 7 ladies) have yellow legs and all of the chicks in the first few hatches developed yellow legs. But now I have some chicks that are keeping the pinkish white legs and beaks that they had at hatch. I know not to breed this white legged ones but how do I determine which of my flock is passing this on? Should I "retire" Zorro after this year and replace him with one of his sons?
I've also had a few other defects that have cropped up. I had one cockerel born with no tail. I also noticed that there is one pullet who has blueish grey eyes instead of the orangeish color that they are supposed to be. Ron, have you had any hatch with any issues like this?
I can read spanish
Thanks! They were bred with other breeds to expand their genetics. Because most of the original population was almost extinct. There are 3 varieties, the black and white, white and a white and red/orangey color. You will get a white one every now and then from black and whites. And the white ones produce the red/whites.

1. INTRODUCTION
The hens and other species of pets accompanied man in his
expansion and settling of the earth. In this process all kinds of different circumstances influenced the
orientation taken in each case for the creation of races, "... I do not exist per se in nature, if
not that man was created based on stocks you space that has been available to
selecting them according to your taste and need. " (F. Orozco)
In this way and focusing on northern Spain objective similarities observed between
different breeds of domestic species that inhabit. In this sense and with respect to the hen,
we see that all the supposedly indigenous material known in the area belongs to the Atlantic trunk
species. This is true both in pint Pita Asturiana, as in the Basque Eusko-Oiloa, the Pardo de Leon
Galina and Mos, which although very influenced by Asian races combatants is evident that this
influence has been exerted on a preexisting population of chickens in the trunk Atlantic. So
as likely in the case of other races that might exist in other communities in the area,
although no actual inventory of these potential is known.
According to rules of the SEZ (Spanish Society Zooetnología) and the concept of race
proposed in its Standard Operating Procedure for Recognition of Breeds and Cataloging
Livestock (ANNEX I); Pita Pinta Asturiana in its current situation meets the necessary requirements
Autochthonous Breed to be considered Endangered. This being the aim of putting
shown in this report is presented and in which the result of twenty years of work set forth in
recovery, selection, diffusion, dissemination and preservation a veterinarian and a group of enthusiastic
poultry carry on doing this breed of chickens.
The Pita Pinta Asturiana, as people today, not only meets the requirements of uniformity and
transferability of the defined and identifiable characters such as morphological, phaneroptical,
morphostructural and fisiozootécnicos that characterize it; but already, from October 3
2003, with the ACPPA Association (Association Pita Pinta Asturiana Breeders), who begins his
career with the firm intention of trying to achieve their conservation improve yields
productive breed while preserving its rustic character. Although its future is partly what
ensures the spectacle of his characters phaneroptical layer that makes it a very appreciated race
by many fans as an ornamental poultry.
The breed standard was established in 1995 by Mr. Rafael EGUINO veterinarian with Marcos
invaluable advice of Dr. D. Fernando Orozco Piñán, who since 1990 was interested in "the hard
Asturian "and protected the progress of Mr EGUINO recovery race to the end of his days.
From the release pattern of race interest in it grew dramatically at
regionally, nationally and internationally. Getting the Pita Pinta like implantase in Asturias
I would never have missed on this earth. This work redistribution and expansion of race in the Principality of
Asturias, which had already begun in the late 80s of last century from Central Selection
Pita Pinta Asturiana located at Llantones - Gijón, was facilitated and constantly rewarded with
acceptance and interest aroused by it and not only among fans but among poultry
traditional farmers (here called "villagers"), naturalists, and Asturian asturianistas general
due primarily to memory in the memory of this breed of chicken in the region, especially in memory
older.
The interest in this race nationally is growing every day, in every contest-exposure to the
breeders have copies of her or with each publication in which it is mentioned. A good example is
Page 6

the editorial, in No. 57-2003 of the informative Spanish Magazine Poultry POULTRY-ART, the
Director of the publication Mr. Ramón Amenós Cos devotes to Pita Pinta, which he called "Asturias" and
reads as follows:
"All parameters can be used to assess indicate that this community is to
Unlike the fastest growing area in the Spanish poultry hobbies.
The impressive spurt of people who are interested in raising poultry breed is no
chance but I think it reaps the rewards of the good work of dissemination and outreach that has been done
Pita Pinta Asturiana with a race of great interest both inside and outside the Principality and some
seasoned breeders in the region that consistently favor the expansion facilitating animals, educating
correctly the new fans work as banding or providing the means to acquire
maximum knowledge. The pity is that so important hobby still can not coalesce
associations and nobody raises a serious organizing exhibition, as the town that harbored a
Surely that would reap a huge success. "
Well inexperience and lack of infrastructure on the one hand I do not get the information in time to the
publication because as said the association of breeders of race is already underway. Through it
the census is a permanently updated and only then we will have enough information
to pose with some foresight organization at least once a year on this date by
determining a fair devoted to Pinta Asturiana. But already in 2001 he held the first
monographic exhibition race Pita Pinta Asturiana chickens in the village of Infiesto.
With the invaluable help of Mr Amadeu Francesch Vidal is reviewed in 2000 the pattern uninspired
valid. Precisely Mr. Francesch acting as international judge qualifies for the first time copies
this hen Rassegeflügelschau 2000, deserving one copy the distinction with a medal.
Since then the rate of the breed in various national competitions and exhibitions and
international to different breeders already have them.
Precisely participation Rassegeflügelschau this race in 2000 in Nürnberg, Germany will
opened the doors to the international scene because of the interest aroused by this breed and breeders
European experts due not only to its peculiar phenotype but so original genotype is sensed.
Thus at this time (late 2003) we can confirm that apart from in Asturias
where race and extends throughout its territory, the Pita Pinta Asturiana breeds in many communities
this country; currently having, though few breeders of this breed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany,
France and Italy.
The statement of the problem that concerns us can also be taken from the point of view
ethnographic and ethnological ultimately culture. From this point of view we must also highlight the
peculiarity of genotype Pita Pinta Asturiana that hints at its unique phenotype. Within the set of
Spanish breeds of chickens and even within the different European breeds of chickens, only the Pinta
Asturiana presents this layer between the races of Atlantic trunk. This may have to do with
preference for a type of color in the plumage of birds at one time by the people of this region. By
usually by women traditionally care of this child rearing livestock.
Maybe it could be due to the tastes of men from these communities
by predilection,
superstition, ... etc, with some colorful determined layer such animals, at the time of giving
women with one of these used and appreciated more in the past. Nowadays, among the
fans cockfighting breeders and of course, this extended the idea that certain
layers roosters would be associated with certain skills of the fighters before the fight.

It would be interesting to know what human behavior led to this gene pool
incorporated in the gene pool of a preexisting population which absorbs but which leaves
differentiating its presence known this population of neighboring, very likely above
identical.
In our community on the one hand; the habit of giving their women with these birds, and on the other;
trasumancia seasonal north - south, traditional way of life of Vaqueiros. It could be the equation
solve the mystery.
Returning to the concept of race and studying on the same considerations that manifest
FAO experts, the Spanish Zooenólogos, Herrera, Orozco, ... etc. I would point out here a
friend who was the soul of the recovery of many of our native breeds of chickens and we
leave forever this year; Fernando Orozco (1985):
"The races were pets or can be added by any technical or livestock,
who has access to a population in which the defining qualities or skills you are looking for in it, then
specific morphological uniform through appropriate selection, and the closure
it crosses with strange animals. "

March. ACION RECOVERY, CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PAINTING ASTURIANA RACE PITA.
3.1. LOCATION
In the 80s, for work, the recovery of the breed: Rafael Marcos-biologist and EGUINO
vet-ran much of Asturias and found that they could still see chickens that seemed to have
some connection with commercial hybrids from the 50 and 60 overran the country,
obliterated virtually all of our hens breeds, even those such
commercial importance had another time, such as the Black Castellana or Prat.
Most poultry houses in which animals of this type were found in places
far apart where communication with commercial channels was low, but the reason given for their
owners but that was not it: "The farm hens look bad." (sick hens farm
. easily) Or were they always had chickens raised in the house; latter's stated reason
in coastal, well connected and mild climate areas.
These populations greatly highlighted some copies for his peculiar layer,
repeated in different localities. Consequently the prevalence of this layer result seemed
usual exchange between neighboring eggs, since the distance between coops was too big. This
did think Mr, EGUINO that it was likely that these animals possessed a gene pool
truly indigenous and hence its determination that this would see the light again.
Interest vet the rarity of these animals led him to acquire, not without difficulty, the greater
many as possible. The most effective method to convince the owners to sell their
Appreciated animals consisted of copies and get them to commit to those numbers
enough for their coops were as they said, "those enanthic" (picture 1).

3.2 METHOD OF RECOVERY
Little by little they were creating lots of these animals, belonging to the Atlantic trunk,
appeared not only in the mantle, also presented common characteristics in terms of morphology,
conformation and behavior (hardiness, maternal character, etc..)
Some of the phenotypic characteristics of these specimens were due to genes qualitative (presence-
absence, dominance-responsiveness), easily unifiable but others seemed influenced (interaccionados) by
other genes quantitative, and not determined a cause segregation difficult to explain,
circumstance which greatly complicates the selection to set the race in a stable phenotype.
In a first step, they passed each other and to the individuals presenting the characteristics
desired backcrosses are made to increase as much as possible in this chromosome
resulting populations (F1, F2, ... etc.).
After multiple matings and controlled crosses between lines and batches obtained
offspring to increase the frequency of characteristics sought circumventing the problems if possible
inbreeding, was achieved finally stabilize populations for these characters to the year 1990
beginning itself redistribution phase. In this phase two objectives sought, on the one hand satisfy the
given word and on the other to increase and diversify the population, keeping it separate lines.
By 1989, Mr. Fernando Orozco, Director of INIA poultry section, publishes a catalog of
"Spanish Breeds of Chickens", which represented the most comprehensive study of the situation of heritage
still existing genetic Spanish breeds chickens.
In this study there was no reference to the existence of any specific breed of hen
Asturias, appeared not to submit any breed characteristics of today
called Pita Pinta Asturiana.
But in the definition of race and the concept of recovery thereof exposed by Mr. Orozco in his
book, it was clear that one could speak of a race of chickens recovered in Asturias.
In late 1990, Mr. EGUINO Mr. Orozco reports of the existence of Pita Pinta, Orozco was
impressed by the existence of race and sincerely interested in her, confirming the
possibility that they were a native breed of the region, on the other hand very unique, since neither
even in international catalogs described animals appeared trunk Atlantic species with these
plumage characteristics that, according to Mr. Field, Mr. Orozco geneticist team, is a curiosity
genetics.
After this injection of enthusiasm and with the advice of Mr. Orozco, a new series is made
mating with stocks controlled by Mr. EGUINO and mostly belong to the
first breeders of race, through which could rapidly increase the number of copies,
isolate populations and minimize inbreeding effect.
Matings were designed to prove the existence of varieties within the breed and
attempt to identify some of the genes responsible for their phenotype.
Page 11
####################################################################################################################### PINT PITA ASTURIANA
CURRENT SITUATION """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
In this first selection had been scrapped all specimens showed no phenotype
paint in black, but after several generations the town of pintos animals were
segregating progeny copies in its black and white copies (actually Birch layer).
He then began
with the selection and study of these color varieties keeping
controlled locations thereof and analyzing their progeny.
It was found that these populations also remained stable and kept the other
own breed characteristics.
Unfortunately, in 1991, Mr. Orozco retire and the interest of the new direction of the Institute for
issue as well. But everything was in place and the enthusiasm of amateur breeders and breed
booming. So in 1995, after studying data from Mr. EGUINO concludes the first work on
this race, in which his employer is proposed, its varieties are defined, highlight some of the
genes that make up the genetic formula and called the race as: PITA ASTURIANA PT today
widely publicized.
It is noteworthy that the populations of white coat emerged specimens showed layer
painted orange and white tone. Mr. Field, poultry genetics expert at INIA in 1990 to consult
studies on the variety painted in black made so by Mr. EGUINO and see that
with certain breeds Pinta Asturiana produced hybrids with the layer named thousand flowers, supposed race
should provide the above-described orange and white coat. According to him to consider it as such.
So now the Pita Pinta Asturiana presented as own four color varieties: PT
in black (the most widespread), the pint in roxo, black and white.
By accepting these varieties of the race, in a second phase, it recover in the field
copies black and white copies, previously checking the F1 cross with copies
Purebred comprised less than 25% pure specimens, they went to lots of breeding whereby
increased the gene pool of the breed in the populations and the effect thereof.
Today these color varieties are obtained and the self-selected populations derived from
Pinta Negra.
The trend of practically all the breeders is to breed varieties in purity, although it
Chances are that once the poultry animals were composed of several of these
layers. (Photo 4)

3.3 GENETIC ASPECTS
Regarding the genes that determine color and pen drawing in chickens, we say that the
phenotype manifesting adult animals of this breed: "Pita Pinta Asturiana" indicates that the gene has
Pi / pi which is an article in the "Journal of Genetic-Pags 1927. 2O7-218 "and authored RCPunnet
MSPease called simply P / w in demonstrating that responsible "pi" motley allele
(Pied) black and white is recessive and multigenic influenced by factors (Quantitative) can
increase or decrease its effect.
This is so in the present case, but also with Pita pigment paints the gradient
of the downy chicks reach the white phenotype not correspond in principle to the homozygous recessive
"Pi pi". Fig.1 Ver
In our case, this gradient of phenotypes of the population is distributed according to a Gauss curve,
whose ends are located respectively black and white individuals and in central pinto,
much greater in number, which in turn have a greater or lesser proportion of pigment in the down.
The pigment in paint chick down is in direct reaction with feather pigmentation
final in the adult. (photo 5)
(Fig. 1)
That appear white individuals in the population of this breed could be due to
action of genes known as the gene of total elimination of color: C / c, which, influenced by the action of
other unknown provocasen quantitative effect co therein膥dominance phenomena or penetration
incomplete one allele over the other, given that white individuals have often small
chicks pigmented areas where black feathers adult fully develop.

CURRENT SITUATION """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Moreover, these white pieces - which initially were discarded in the selection, - the
be pair them together produced copies of the so-called "Variety Roxa" whose phenotype is varied
(Pied) but orange-brown and white, which suggests that they have a genetic combination that
inhibits the synthesis of melanin in some intermediate step. But until it can not be established with certainty
the genetic base of the breed we move into the realm of hypothesis.
Another unknown is represented by the fact that this breed large pens rémiges (primary and
secondary) and rectrices are most always white. (photo 6) This might be thought to be due to
gen: "White-wing" Ww, but race does not show the effects of this gene produces homozygous lethal
recessive, because fertility is usually good, whitening pen is not progressive and the
old copies blindness not observed. Another hypothesis is that the lack of pigmentation of the great
feathers is due to some somatic gene effect retrasase or annul completely transforming
melanoblasts in pigmented melanocytes in the differentiation of the germ of these pens with
keratinization respect thereof.
(Photo 6)
Most of 1st and 2nds remiges and rectrices are white.
The breed has morphological similarities to other breeds of their environment as: "Pardo de Leon" and
Beltza variety of "Eusko-Oiloa," also seems to share with them part of your gene pool with
about genes that influence plumage color, as though his coat is completely different color
base is black. Like them, the "Pita Pinta" no sexual dimorphism, suggesting that owns the
allele "E" of the E series multialélica / e, it is reaffirmed that the F1 resulting from hybridization of this
breed chicken breeds known to possess the allele "e" series presents this phenotype multialélica
called "columbian", further indicating that the allele has also "Co" Co / co Columbian gene and
probably the silver allele "S" gene, "Silver" (Silver) / "golden" (Gold): S / s, he never appeared
phenotype called "fawn". Although this latter result may be due to inadequate sample.
Page 14

CURRENT SITUATION """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Under this gene S / s there is some confusion because the males of the variety "Pinta in
Black "may have, as individuals, the following range of tones in bright feathers
cárieles cape and black, old gold yellow, light yellow and silver. Unpigmented area of down the
chick has two colors (Figure 7), in some cases it is snow white and other beige.
(PHOTO 7)
Two shades in the
down chick.
A prominent feature in the action of the genotype of this race is that, producing a mottled
uniform in the mantle of the adult, the first pen down replacing the chick is totally black in
the area where the down was completely white and pigmented in which it was not. (picture 8)
(PHOTO 8)
First pen.
The Pita Pinta does not have the "Azul" (Blue) gene: Bl / bl or gene "Barred" B / b.
By the above formula in genetic Pita Pinta Asturiana of are present at
under these genes:

SELECTION CENTER PITA PINT ASTURIANA

Hen in Llantones - Gijón.
In 1980 Mr. Rafael EGUINO, as already said, find the first issue of Pita Pinta
Asturiana. At first it seemed just a casual curiosity, but when this veterinary began its work
professional and ran livestock sanitation campaigns practically all the territory of the Principality
Asturias realized in different and distant communities in the region were, though few,
animals similar to that first chicken items. So this vet realizes these
hens are more than just a genetic fluke, and that could be the remains of an ancient race that
geographical distribution seemed to be populated much of the Asturian territory. Hypothesis that the
time and especially when the work began with redistribution, and confirmed that at least the
remembered perfectly the greatest. In many areas called "Rucos whistles" which means in Asturian
hard or tough.
Since 1985 is being developed on the premises of Mr. EGUINO in Llantones-Gijón, the work
Selection of Pita Pinta Asturiana. (Photos 12 and 13)
From here the race is also redistributed, first bringing animals to anyone interested this hen and
who agreed to submit their work to a roost control as to the direction of mating and
study of the offspring.
In a second stage, about the year 1991, the contribution of animals from the center to the breeders
is limiting the supply of males and tested in the center and which is still checking them their
female offspring to which apadrean. For this different poultry eggs are collected and
incubated in the center thus controlling birth to go checking the state of purity in which
intends to maintain lots of parenting that exist today and have been the basis for studies on the
race takes made and to distribute it to where it is required, often by
laying eggs. This will also assure the quality of the resulting products. With this
race attitude spread easily because the seriousness of this issue encourages many breeders start
with this breed.

3.6 STUDIES ON RACE.
Studies conducted on this race, considering that was the work of a single
person of limited means both time and economic infrastructure has been extended much
over time. Due mainly to be possible raising of offspring in large batches
each generation, so to get slightly reliable data was necessary to study over the years
offspring. Anyway for the application of statistical methods needed to study a
highest number of copies standardizing rearing conditions and feeding.
The data obtained so everything pretty accurately repeated in the last ten years.
These studies were always taken on managed populations in semi-liberty,
animals doing exercise. The rearing cages remains only until two months after they are placed
in pens and finally females are exploited as jackets.
In this regard it should be noted a fact that although it is somewhat subjective, it is very
developer. We refer to the fact that many of the breeders that keep this breed in a
more than fifteen years is country people, which are characterized by not wasting money and power to
part of the intrinsic beauty of the breed, this interested from a more pragmatic point of view. For them
hen has to be what it is, a chicken and as such should chickens lay eggs and produce at least
consumption of their owners. Then as we see from the beginning the race works in this area without
problem such as a jacket hen.
Studies on the breed and your employer have been the result of data
collected by Mr. EGUINO and written in two papers, one in 1995 and another date of 2002.

3.7 RELEASE AND DISPERSION OF RACE
Despite the importance of these early works may have for understanding this
race had much to do to be recognized and classified as such nationally and internationally.
In this sense it has not stopped progress in recent years, increasing its population and the number of
breeders constantly. This breed has spread not only throughout the Principality of Asturias,
but also from other regions of the country such as Galicia, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Catalonia,
Madrid and Extremadura, crossing even the boundaries of the country in 2000.
In 1998 he participated for the first time at an exhibition in Infiesto, which consisted of a sample of
Asturianas different indigenous breeds. For that occasion some leaflets (picture 16) were distributed in the
which were defined broadly the features and the most important defects of the breed.
(Photo 16)

Proof of interest in the race has been the celebration of the first monograph of the breed in the show
livestock of St. Teresa (12th October 14, 2001) in the town of Infiesto (Asturias). Him
18 farmers participated - there was no room for more - which had a total of 12O animals, resulting in a
successful participation both as regards uniformity between animals exposed target
sample actually. I gave the participants a commemorative medal.
Another aspect that are taking important steps to achieve the goals by
mentioned, is informative, having published, and in 1995, on the Asturian newspaper an article on
this hen and features.

Another of the requirements to be recognized that race is their participation in competitions and
national and international exhibitions. Having participated in Nuremberg has been very important but
now have a few years in which the race is to continue to participate in such Streak
events to achieve this goal.
Anyway also is gaining ground on this issue, as Mr. Ringnalda (Director of
POULTRY Poultry magazine) and introduced in 2001 for the competition "in ORNITHOPHILIA
UTRECHT ", held on 5 and 6 October in this city, four samples Pita Pinta Asturiana de
his Dutch henhouse.
Also the participation of several breeders of this breed in the Mediterranean Exhibition IV that
held on 18, 19 and 2O January 2OO2, at the Kursaal in Valls should serve to keep burning
stages of this journey.
In this year 2003, the race has participated in:
At the regional level -.
. Infiesto, on 11, 12 and October 13.
Nationwide -.
. Colmenar Viejo (Madrid), on 3 and 4 May.
. Tudela de Duero (Valladolid), on 31 October and 1 and November 2.
Internationally -. . Metz (France), on November 8 and 9.
Also expected to attend at least four farmers in the
V Exhibition
Mediterranean to be held in January at Valls (Tarragona). This outreach is favoring a
significant dispersion of the race not only nationally but also breeders of other European countries
have begun to raise her and expose events in their environment.

4.2 CENSUS OF BREEDERS.
Currently this hen farmers form a very heterogeneous group with interests very
different, a fact which certainly bodes well for the preservation of the breed.
On one side are the supporters many poultry breeds. Numerous and although the number
copies that have often reduced, they are much fit the pattern, they keep in touch
common among them and prevent inbreeding populations with exchanges.
Another group consists of persons interested in environmentalism, traditional, rustic breeds, the
return to nature, etc.. Typically maintain larger lots than previous with the idea of consumption
family of production and selection asking advice from more experienced breeders. In general
represent a good test bed for their animals subjected to environmental conditions and an
life in semi regime.
Traditional Asturian farmers who chose this race as raise poultry in
Instead of commercial hybrids, are those with more numerous lots. Raising chickens in these
Day release testing not only its hardiness but also its profitability since engaged
sale egg production as "Aldea egg." The fact that this group of breeders maintain
this race over the years indicates the most developed of the same productive capacity.
Finally, there is another group of breeders, but for now that is the scarcest, their items
represent a permanent exhibition of the race. Public parks are among the most important are: the
Isabella Park of Gijón and the New Park Felguera.
After establishing this year's Breeders Association Pita Pinta Asturiana the proceed
to update the census breeders to partner and banding of all animals shall be required for the
2005, so that may be registered in the Stud Book of the Breed.
Nevertheless Center Selection Pita Pinta Asturiana has the following census breeders with
establishing regular contact with them since Mr. EGUINO works in the selection and improvement of the breed,
but represents only a part of today the CIA engaged in this chicken.
Breeders (those that do not carry locality are in Asturias ):
Jesús García Fernández, Felix Montes Rodriguez, Hyginus Junquera Alvarez, Luis Alvarez
White, Oscar Alvarez Campelo Jose Rivas Gonzalez, Rafael Gonzalez Cuesta, Ana Guerrero Vallina,
Severino García Rodríguez, Fermín Rodríguez Menéndez, Guillermo Vega Fernández, Luis A. Alday Yaugua
( Burgos ), Enrique Cano Blanco, Elena González Díaz, Lydia Marcos Huerta, Luis Pérez Sánchez,
Jesús González González ( Santander ), Francisco Menéndez Crespo, Leonardo Fernández Sánchez,
Arturo González García, Enrique Blanco Fernández, José Avelino Palacios, Jerome Balle Ferrer ( Mallorca )
Aurelio Martín Alonso ( Valladolid ), Pablo Ordaz White, David Fernández Blanco, Claudio Fano Pérez-Abad,
Palace Gerardo Suarez, Victor Noriega Cotera, Ignacio Ramos García, Manuel Fernández Martínez, José
Ramón Alvarez Alonso, Espinea Constantino Medina, Roberto Fontan Alvarez, José Menéndez Zapico,
Gonzalo Morán Cuesta, Ceferino Fernandez Ries, Antonio Massanero ( Italy ) and J.Ringnalda ( Netherlands ).
These breeders are even more contact with Mr maintained, and their populations are EGUINO,
at least morphologically controlled level, are only part of the people who currently own or breed
Pita Pinta Asturiana copies.
These breeders are taking an average of 12 continuous copies.
Retain 10 to 15% of the rearing period, which has been 55 peaks henhouse and season. There are
to highlight the great work that the dispersion of race fans who do manage incubators.
Page 30

CURRENT SITUATION """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
So, some breeders reach a large number of rearing chicks. As Claudio Fano 200
births in 2003 or Roberto Fontan with 500. At the Center Selection race, in 2003 there were 528
births. What makes a total of about 3000 births this year.
Most are usually sold as chicken day. Scattering in all directions.
After the last ten years of work selection, dissemination and dispersion of the race is to
walk the walk backwards. I mean, it's time to collect information about how diversified race
interpreted as breeders or if the pattern appears as uniform populations will retain their
characteristics and in turn develop and update the census.
Animal Control:
Together these breeders have a strength of 480 specimens of the breed.
Center Pita Pinta Asturiana Selection permanently has about 60 selected animals and
all varieties of color.
The total number of specimens of the breed is much higher, but not quantified. Because although there
many breeders interested in entering a control program, the Association is only giving breeders
the first steps slowly because of its recent establishment and the lack of means for now.

May. QUALITIES AND SKILLS.
One of the most interesting aspects to achieve preserve this or any other race of animals
home is to determine your fitness, from the economic point of view, more profitable.
a -. In all honesty, the best bulwark that has this breed of chicken to ensure
conservation is his mantle (characteristic plumage) (photo 27), which makes it irresistible as ornamental animals
for their collections poultry fans.
(Photo 27)
Copies of the Pinta assortment Black (PN).
b -. The hen egg production as jacket looks like its outstanding ability, plus the
to maintain this performance in the different microclimates of Asturias in which breeding shows
adaptation to the environment and hardiness.
The media that has been getting in the last ten years in the production of this egg
race is 15.5 eggs / hen / month. Being the middle set of 140 eggs per animal / year. Believing
an average of 9 months of year update. In a random sample there are animals that do not give the average, but
also found that maintain copies set for more than 10 months.
Another aspect is its longevity. Being Normal hens 4 and 5 years maintaining
put. The operating conditions are crucial but chickens passing control to the Center
Selecting from different and distant poultry behave in this respect as the average.
No tests have been made in battery for lack of means. But it would be interesting to estimate the
potential of this ability in this race under these conditions. It would also be interesting to perform some
crosses to produce hybrid and study their potential in this regard.
The data egg production batch is controlled under a free range
by Mr. EGUINO in the Center Selection of Pita Pinta Asturiana 2003 - (Table I).
The data are taken for 7 months breeding which are controlled items
players.
The average egg weight is 65 grams.
The variety is controlled pint roxa relatively recently, but appears to be
sarcopoyética fitness one more developed than the range black paint. This may be related to
set somewhat lower.
Should be studied much more this variety roxa as black and white
Yes, I have read some of the new and old. Frankly, I think we will learn a few more things before it is over. If I get too far into that stuff, my eyes glaze over.Hi George!
Recent work on leg shank genetics has shown that it is on a simple dominance and recessive trait of one gene. It is 3 to 5 genes for yellow leg vs white leg color.
The old books that many rely on have a lot of wrong information in them.
I looks like white is dominant but that other pigment genes can cover the white.
Also, if you have a parent that is Ww and another parent that is Ww, you will have 25% that will get ww and have yellow shanks from two white shank parents.
Thanks!
