Poultry Breeds of Spanish Ancestry

Penedesenca's are not recognized, WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!
For any breed that is not admitted, a place is going to have to be earned. It is no small effort. The APA is not against admitting any breed but recognition is no small effort. It shouldn't be.

I like that it is like that. No reason to have a thousand breeds recognized that are not up to par.

There are some recent examples of this being accomplished.

The way I see it, is it can be done with any breed. The breed just has to have the support, and be in the hands of breeders that can do something with them.

Thank you for starting this thread.
My name is Angela and I have ordered a few white faced black Spanish chicks from Urch this spring.
Hi Angela,

I haven't seen Urch's birds but from what I understand he breeds to the SOP on everything he has.

Bridgett Riddle in California has done really well at the shows with her WFBS. Now would be the time to get on her list if you want a second line for your flock.

I like Bridgett's Spanish. They look like Spanish to me, and more than just the facial features.

I would like to see a picture of him.

I will have to look and get familiar with their standard.

That last male is attractive to me. He has a nicely arched neck balanced with a nicely curved front. His tail is not balanced with the rest of him, and if it was just a bit less upright with more flow, that bird would be pretty sharp. He is nice looking already.

I like how the white earlobes stand out on all of these breeds, where the red earlobes blend in.

For any of these breeds, people need to see how attractive they can be. With our rare examples, we are working with what we have, but we need to work hard.

We know what they could be/should be, but the general public does not.
I'll get one this week of him

Quote: Well at least you guys have them! Over here In Australia we don't have them at all....
Along with many other breeds.

Quote: Well is there support over in the US for these birds?
If they where over here I would probably support them, they look wonderful!

It would be really cool though if they got into the APA because then you ( the supporters ) can choose how the breed is going to look rather than the APA.

I would imagine that it would make the most sense to respect the standard from their country. At least mostly, and not change the breed into something new. So accepted or not, there is still a standard.
But, I am speaking out of turn. I do not even own the breed. Though I am interested in the breed.
