Poultry Breeds of Spanish Ancestry

I have eggs due to hatch on Wednesday evening but they were almost two weeks into their incubation before I realized that my turner wasn't turning. Ugh!!!!

I don't know if they're going to hatch or not, poor things are probably stuck in place. I lost most of the developing chicks from the one little hen that I really wanted babies from. A couple had bacteria rings in the very beginning and then the rest were doing well for a while. Out of a dozen eggs, I have 4 and of those, I'm pretty sure that only 2 are still viable. Very disappointing. But I still have the birds and I started a new batch last night. Hopefully this will go much better. I made up a way to turn them a couple times a day without opening the incubator so its probably more like a hen than a turner that is in constant motion. I will try to fix the turner, maybe it needs some oil because I could feel the motor vibrating but it wasn't turning the eggs, so its stuck somewhere.

Are you going to keep him? He is quite different isn't he? I like him! His foot color matches the rest of him. I've never seen feet that color before. If you keep him, I'd sure like to watch him grow up.
I emailed the professor in Spain to ask his opinion. They have a picture of one similar on there Facebook page.
i may grow him out to see. since he is from my run that has the Silver olive egger projects too.

they will hatch fine.

Not turning will lower the hatch rate a bit but not kill them. The motor will burn out on the turners. I replaced two motors last year. I should order in a spare.

Post pictures when they hatch!

Oops grabed the wrong pic on the top one this is crele penedesenca and empordanesa

I popped a couple of Partridge Pene eggs into an incubator last nigh. I will pop them open and see if they developed at all in a couple of days!

That would be nice to see. Did you invite them to the thread? We need more participants.

Well, my hatch that was scheduled for Wednesday night was almost a complete failure. I had two chicks hatch. So, I got to talking to someone about the dry incubation method because when I cracked those eggs open, most of them were awfully wet. Others had upside down chicks and still others had chicks that were somewhere in between, but most really wet. So, I made some changes to my hatcher and put my newest batch of eggs in there last night so that today I could take my incubator apart and clean and sterilize the whole thing. Got it all back together and it is warming up. Once it reaches temps, I'll be transferring my eggs back to that so it will be easier to turn them. Not adding any water at all, I'll be weighing my eggs to monitor weight loss and hopefully this hatch will yield more chicks than the last one... by a long shot!
