I understand where you are coming from in regards to your schedule. There are a couple of outfits selling automatic doors that operate either off of a timer or photocell...kinda pricey. There's also some plans for a DIY automatic door that is built from a automotive power antenna.

I've heard people speak well of the red lights, but have no experience with them. I would hate to depend on psychology alone to protect my chickens, though.

Are you planning on a top for your run?

Thanks Ed....and yes, there will be a top, for sure. Took down the fencing from the dog run today and turns out it's not useable. Years of honeysuckle growing through it, plus the bottom isn't in good shape. Actually relieved....means no choice but to buy more fencing, so I can get smaller openings!
