Poultry genetics primer?

I am very interested in genetics and have been breeding rabbits because of that for a long time.

I am just now beginning to be interested in breeding chickens, however, and am beginning to suspect it may be more complicated.

Can anyone please briefly point out some of the major challenges of breeding chickens with particular goals in mind? Things that would be different from other species, in particular.

I would also be interested in a basic poultry genetics primer, if anyone has a favorite source they could suggest.
