Poultry Netting question

My mixed flock of turkey is getting an upgraded kennel/pasture. Our Midget Whites are quick flyers, so the pasture NEEDS a netting on Top. If anyone has used netting, can you tell me your brand?

The sides of the pasture will be tall enough to discourage our resident fox population. The center line of the pasture will be 7' tall posts, to allow for good flapping and exercise. The overall pasture will be a 20' x 20' area.

(I put shade tarps over the tops of the kennel areas, so they can't fly outta there.)

I see the BirdX brands, and other places sell Heavyweight and Lightweight types.

My "run" is 50'x 100' and at one time was covered completely with 2" netting. Half was covered with heavy duty polypropylene netting from Strombergs which is still there and doing good. The other half was covered with non-polypropylene netting purchased from the army surplus store. That netting did not hold up well and has long since been gone.

I have seen this netting recommended by another BYC member. I have not checked if they have it available in other sizes but suspect that they should.

My run slopes from 14' on the high side down to 7' on the low side. I used treated 6"'x6" posts and use 2"x4" welded wire fencing for the sides. I avoid poultry wire since it can cut turkeys very easily especially if they are in the habit of pacing back and forth along the fence. I also highly recommend making the run as big as you can. Twenty feet by twenty feet really isn't a very big area.

We used to have regular bird netting over ours, but heavy snows would bring it down as well as turkeys trying to fly in would rip it. We have been working on using electric fence wire to make a grid over the top.

My advice is to buy strong stuff or be prepared for doing repairs occasionally.
